More Mac/OSX help

Re: More Mac/OSX help

And at the risk of turning this thread into an Apple VS. PC thread, how easy/cheap would it be to LEGALLY download and install a Windows OS to a PC with a blank hard drive and no other PC available. Key word, Legally. I'm not an expert on PCs but my experience trying to do just this has chased me back to Apple every time.
With Apple's Bootcamp support for Windows I think it wouldn't be hard to do. (make a bootable USB Windows installer on a Mac)

Bootcamp enables you to install a Windows OS on your Mac. It doesn't supply the OS. You have to have a legal copy of a Windows OS to do this. hence the chicken/egg issue.

I've tried to do this a couple of times [obtain and install a PC OS on a PC without access to another PC or a bootable Windows OS]. Every time the only LEGAL way i found to do it was to buy a retail copy of Windows. And that certainly wasn't 20 bucks....

Re: More Mac/OSX help

get a full retail copy of snow leapard ($10.00 on ebay) then upgrade to maverick from the app store for free. I have an 05 Macbook pro with a 128GB SSD, 4 GB ram, 2.2GHZ dual duo processor and it runs fantastically. I use it for work only. plugging in a trouble shooting equipment and systems as well as setting up systems for install work. For me the upgrade to maverick has been great. The machine run smooths and will actually read 6GB of ram that way. I also run parallels on this computer It slows down some, just DONT use windows 8 it bogs the computer down in parallels. Windows 7pro seems to run more efficient doing the exact same

I think he should just write his own operating system.

After all, you can't expect the developers to allow their work to be customizable to unique situations.

I am just repeating the advice I got.

05 Macbook Pro? The Macbook Pro line wasn't introduced until Jan of 2006. Not to mention supporting 6GB of ram or OSX10.9. Perhaps you mean 5 years old?

Re: More Mac/OSX help

oops, sorry it is a late '06, had to look it up again! I bought this one used on a pawn shop stripped out and got it working. There are also many cases of Macs holding more memory than stated. My 08 Macbook has 8GB ram, Apple says it can only take 4. This is because the first runs of the unibody Macbooks actually used Macbook Pro chipset. I was very happy to find that out when I went to buy more ram and the tech mentioned it was possible.
