That AES section meeting report was priceless. Raisin Juice! I had no idea. But I do understand the "sandwich in the mixer" story. I had a model 6000 that worked fine but had a funny rattle when moved like something was loose. When I opened it up to take a look I found an only slightly chipped around the edges Ritz cracker.
I read many years ago that Tapco used "cheap" pots and a fruit-based concoction for lube/damping. No joke. I think it was a prune juice. Later Greg Mackie used silicone grease.
