Need help with 'music' chase

Have a chauvet obey 70. It's supposed to have a music activated chase mode but it relies on MIDI data in to actually execute this.

How on earth am I meant to turn the sound in the room into relevant MIDI data?

I think the intention is for someone to have a MIDI file already, or be sending something live from a keyboard on stage, to activate this feature. The MIDI file would have to be created before the set, and then played for each song.
