Re: Outline GTO - Any Experience?
Man, you guys would have HATED the LAB back in the middle to late 90s...

Yeah-and there are times to "tell it like it is". This whole " everybody is equal-everybody has the same abilities-lets all be nice to each other- politically correct crap" is part of what is wrong with todays society.
Where is Paul Klisphs "bull shit" button these days? OH yeah-I did get one from Bill Whitlock at Infocomm last year-but without the words-just the symbol kinda. So even that has been neutered.
Sometimes the "man behind the curtain" has to be exposed. You simply cannot believe everything that is said. The way this happens is for truthful discussion-and not trying to "be nice".
You can still "be nice" (ie not insulting) and point out lies or misconceptions-but in many cases this is frowned up-because some people don't want to make others mad.
Sorry for the rant-and this is not based on this discussion or the content-except for Geri's comments about the original LAB-where some much more "insightful" discussions went on.
Kinda like the difference between the US version of Pro audio review and the ones from overseas. In the US version-everything is great (because they want to sell adds).
Overseas they take the units apart and post photos of the insides-do actual measurements/specs and really "review" the product.
That is the way it is supposed to be. But over here-it is all "nice and rosy" and the only thing wrong with a product is the color or the shape of a knob etc. How about the fact that a product doesn't come close to meeting the advertised specs? To me-that is important! Does it do what it says it should? has anybody ACTUALLY CHECKED or MEASURED it?
We really need more of that of "review" going on. How about something besides " The speaker is rated for 139dB max output-I did a gig with an acoustic duo for 60 people and it worked great". WELL I HOPE SO! But how close can it actually get to the rated 139dB? And LISTENABLE! That is what people want to know. Or a low freq rated at 30Hz. HOW LOUD is it REALLY at 30Hz-WITHOUT the large recommended boost? Or can it do max output at 30Hz with the boost applied? That is important stuff!-at least to me.
I will stop now before I really piss off some people---------------------------------
