Re: Poll: Which analog console would you like to see at FOH?

More and more it seems like "whichever one has the most channels/controls actually working", since when regionals trot out analogs they usually have some age to them.

If you are actually looking new, APB Spectra would be my dream choice.

Re: Poll: Which analog console would you like to see at FOH?

I think that under "3,000 in attendance" could bring a wide range of acts to a smaller market. If I'm coming in with an act that can draw 1000-1500, I think those choices are quite fair. The current act I tour with could probably come into a smaller market and do 2500 - 3000 people and we'd pretty much require our rider-requested digital consoles at both ends. With the big move to digital in the industry, why go analog? Is digital out of your price range right now?

Re: Poll: Which analog console would you like to see at FOH?

MH. Personally I don't like the verona's eq layout. It's just me, I like mixing in low light and having it change half way through in the layout annoys me, but if that is what the desk is, then its being used.

Re: Poll: Which analog console would you like to see at FOH?

So, an old design that never sold well from a manufacturer best known for their low end mixers, a decent mixer from a pro company (hopefully at least the MH3), or the cheap reboot painted purple DDA castoff? Or, I suppose, I want to be carrying a console but the tour is too cheap so I'm going to take it out on you?

Only one of these is a real option... What about real pro mixers from yesteryear? Crest X series? Midas H3000? PM4000, for Christ's sake.

Re: Poll: Which analog console would you like to see at FOH?

My preference is ANY console with enough (working) channels to do my show IF provided by a vendor that "gets it". My "vintage" preferences are Gamble EX and Midas XL4 with a minimum selection of outboard gear but I'd be really surprised to see either in a "regional 3000 seater".

I could get by fine with any of the three listed consoles even though i have reservations about all of them but if those were the only options I'd choose the A&H. But the rest of the system and the expertise (or lack thereof) of the system provider would make a much bigger difference to my "good day or not" than JUST the console.

Re: Poll: Which analog console would you like to see at FOH?

My dream analog console is of course a Heritage 3000 but they are currently out of our price range. A friend of mine has an ILIVE and loves it, but some FOHs guys have told me that they don't care for it. I've also heard that the M7 does not sound as good as several of the less expensive analog consoles. A verona is a real possibility, but I'm not sure that its a step up from an ML3000 other than just being a "Midas" because its just a basic 8 bus group console. I just wanted to get an idea of what the consensus on this forum is.

Re: Poll: Which analog console would you like to see at FOH?

The general consensus tends to be "it's a business decision". And most of the time digital is the better business decision nowadays.

That being said, I do have a soft spot for Soundcraft but I voted for digital.

Re: Poll: Which analog console would you like to see at FOH?

I work for a regional provider, we send a digital board to a show of that size (5D,M7,LS9), if analog is requested we send out the MH-4-osaur (as we lovingly refer to it in the shop). I would mix on any of those analog boards, as long as it is well maintained, and it has a decent outboard rack. Oh I like them better when I don't have to lift them :-) I really think that (at least in the one-off concert world) analog is dead. I dread seeing an analog console, unless I know the provider keeps his gear in tip top shape. I am so sick of avoiding channels on beat up analog mixers.

Re: Poll: Which analog console would you like to see at FOH?

Yeah at the $5000 dollar level I'd be much happier on a great old dinosaur with some decent outboard. You can check out the Crest VX. They are going cheap now and are an incredible desk to mix on. Same with old Soundcraft 800b's or 8000's. Just tons of fun. The big Midas desks are more affordable than ever, but still command a premium price.

I love analog. As long as someone else is there to lift it.

Re: Poll: Which analog console would you like to see at FOH?

I also want to add that the FOH console is only one part of the equation. People have mentioned the people being important. So is the rest of the kit you'd bring. Crest VX and Behringer outboard hitting a pile of "custom" cabinets? Yamaha LS9-32 and MILO? Decent desks but not enough mic stands to do the gig (I've run into that one too many times this year)? It all doesn't add up in one way or another - having a 360˚ plan is important!

Re: Poll: Which analog console would you like to see at FOH?

As a regional provider the console I'd like to see is the bands console coming out of their trailer. This is what I am seeing a lot and loving it. It means I don't have to spend my money on the flavor of the week digital. Cause if I buy one the B.E.will want the other one. You can't win. 2 cents

Re: Poll: Which analog console would you like to see at FOH?

@ Shane.....that should actually scare you to some degree.....digital consoles replace outboard, then bands bring their own consoles....What's left for us to do? crank up a line array and lights? It will also become harder and harder to justify your price as a provider when the bands bring more and more of their own gear......

I understand that much of this is inevitable and is more practical...but some of it does concern me....

Re: Poll: Which analog console would you like to see at FOH?

Soundcraft MH. I still prefer analog, it's a personal preference. And I can bring my favorite comps. There are good sounding digital desks out there, but I haven't seen a DPR404 plugin yet.

I still prefer analog also. But as long as EVERYTHING works, I will go with whatever.
If it is a digital, I prefer M7 level and above. Plus a competent Tech to help an Old Guy if he gets confused, (me).
