Production Intercom out of business

Re: Production Intercom out of business

Very much a bummer. I've been a dealer for them for a long long time. I still have two of the first-generation beacons monsters. Got a nice letter from them about a week ago about it.

They did probably have too good of a price, but also technology has left them behind a bit. Their gear is no longer fully a operationally equivalent to Clearcom or any other systems.

Re: Production Intercom out of business

Man, I hope they can work through this. I have quite a bit of their stuff in service. The quality of their product and pricing has always been very good.
Most importantly, their support and service were top notch.

Re: Production Intercom out of business

From my local manufacturer's rep email I received last week:

"If you haven't heard or visited their website Home I’d like to take this moment to inform one and all that Production Intercom will be closing down and retiring the brand name that for 29 years has offered up solid products, wonderful support and great people to work with. Over the years at various trade shows we’ve had the pleasure of introducing you to the owners Glenn and Sibbelina Mullis, along with their various staff members. Your ongoing and ever increasing support for Production Intercom products over the years is a testament to what great people they all are. Regretfully, the sad state of the US economy and the extreme challenges of maintaining a company there have gotten the better of them despite Herculean efforts to keep it going. Fortunately there is a strong light ‘at the end of the tunnel’, so here’s the good news.

We are very pleased and encouraged to tell you all Diana Mullis, Glenn’s daughter has formed a new company called Pro Intercom LLC and is raring to pick up where PI has left off. With a diverse business background in large and small business, IT technologies and an entrepreneurial spirit just like Glenn we have the greatest of faith that very quickly the recently lost momentum will be restored. Diana has been at PI for the last two years and knows all aspects of the company both good and bad which will allow her to plot the best course for a quick recovery. The new company has a new location, retained PI staff and reestablished key supplier relationships to start manufacturing immediately. Model numbers and pricing will not be changed."

Re: Production Intercom out of business

Ahhh.... history repeats.

A long, long time ago there was a company called Technical Projects, based in the Isle of Wight, who designed an intercom system. The licenced the rights for USA manufacture and sales to Production Intercom Inc, though I don't think they were called that back then. About the only change from the original was the replacement of the incandescent call light with an LED. By this time the beltpacks, the AD903, the master stations and power supplies, all that stuff was designed and in production in the Isle of Wight, and Production Intercom brought that whole range to the USA marketplace.

Pictures of the old TecPro stuff here: [link] Note in particular the company logo.

Then, still many years ago, the original Technical Projects in the Isle of Wight hit the wall. The the remains and intellectual property was bought by Canford Audio, a sort of UK equivalent of Full Compass, and they've been selling compatibles spares and intercom units for many years under the TecPro name, see here. They also sell many other compatible and competitive systems "alongside".

I was about to say that I don't think they've done anything with the brand since, just cranked out the original design, but they have a new range of beltpacks, very different in look to the old black boxes, and they've updated several other bits of kit.

I wish them well, but to me that is one of the worst website designs I have ever seen. What's up with that java app "site map" thing.

Gah. How a company expects itself to be taken professionally with a site like that is beyond me. If I didn't already know their stuff works well, I'd run away. Welcome, 1997.

At least the site functions without javascript or Flash. There are plenty of websites out there that fail to load any content if either are disabled...

At least they have clear pictures of their products..
Even Behringer hasn't figured out that I MIGHT want to read the front/rear panels without having to download the whole manual (and then sometimes you only get to see it a section at a time)

I'm not sure what you mean. Every Behringer product page I've seen has multiple views of their products right at the top of their page.

Go look up the DCX2496 Behringer: ULTRA-DRIVE PRO DCX2496 and from the pictures alone, try to read off what the button labels are, or what that switch is for on the back..
they go to great lengths to show multiple angles and it is very convenient for overall look and feel judgements but one more notch of resolution would be WAY more useful.

The front and back product shots are legible (although just). Have you tried zooming in?

The switch appears to be labeled "term".
The labeled buttons appear to be

You give up too easily. If those pictures aren't enough, just click on the Downloads page for high res shots.

Re. Awful Pro Intercom website It's a work in progress. Focus has been on getting manufacturing up to speed. THEN we can afford resources for site development. Appreciate your patience with us.
