Fortunately the neighbors weren't home, so I didn't both have to stand full of adrenaline and explain that we were OK.
This is the first true accidental discharge I have ever seen. It would be nearly impossibly to make the gun go off intentionally, even if I'd had my finger anywhere near the trigger which I know I didn't as I very intentionally closed it with my hand on the stock, as it sets its own safety on open and close. I have tried since then.
