SC48 Post forward from PSW

Re: SC48 Post forward from PSW

I think it's been asked before, but why do these consoles seem to have continuous problems???

I don't think a few forum failure reports is a good reference to declare "continuous problems" when there are thousands of these consoles in the wild working fine.

Re those mixing a show on an iPad, that's fine in some circumstances, but in a good number of the events and festivals I have been involved with, being able to work quickly is critical and though I have access to a tablet, it isn't always appropriate. Of course it is a different story if you're working with the same group on a regular basis.

Jeff... I just want to suggest to other Tablet curious folks, that mixing with an iPad is a WORLD of difference from trying to mix a show on a Tablet. I'm not suggesting that the iPad is appropriate for everything, but it is so much more fluid and easier to get quick results out of then my previous experience with even really decent tablets like the Motion Computing LE1600. If you have not yet tried mixing on a actual iPad, you should give it a shot... it's WAY more fun then the tablet and pen setup.

Hey Steve,
I'll give it a shot, I do have access to use an iPad if I want. I've previously been using a couple different models of windows tablets, and always found getting the correct level of precision (especially on rotary controls) to be a challenge which slowed me down enough for it to be a problem in really fast paced environments (I'm talking festivals with 10-15 minute complete stage changeover type arrangements and 2 man crew type stuff). It's been fine in lower pressure scenarios like single band shows where there is actually time for more than a quick line check. I won't be working with Avid stuff as often in the next while though as I sold my SC48 recently and have not replaced it with another touring console - just crossrenting currently.

Re: SC48 Post forward from PSW

Yeah Jeff... for festivals like that, I would keep my butt behind the console and put the toys away until things get rolling too! 8)~8-)~

I think tablets like the LE1600 are still killer for system deployment and tuning, but for controlling the console during the actual gig, I'm gonna give the iPad a try for a while and see how it continues to grow on me, (with future software / App manufacturer updates).

Re: SC48 Post forward from PSW

You will, without a doubt, be floored by the Fulcrum boxes. I now own 6, with more to come!

Also, my apologies for continuing the topic swerve.

I heard the FA28 and FA12 on Monday at the Westminster Village Inn. They were pretty, pretty, pretty good. I'm hoping to take some out on my next US tour in November for monitors and front fill.

When I got home I started looking into what it would take to get these on level 1 processing, and while the boxes themselves are a relative bargain, the processing gets expensive. The affordable fir capable option looks to be the Symetrix Jupiter, but I'm not sure it would be a good choice to take on the road.

I would like to a/b them with Nexo PS boxes.

Just get I-Tech HDs for a bulletproof solution. The amp costs as much as a good DSP does, and you get the amp to boot!
