In my opinion I fell the content contribution on this forum has slowed down considerably from when we first started up. I, myself have always been more of a reader and only contributed when I was pretty certain of the topic at hand, also had a couple good basement threads IMO

Re: "Slow Forum"

I thought it was just that people were out working instead of sitting at the computer......!
I to am more of a reader and only post when i have something that i think is valid to contribute, but i don't consider it a "slow" forum. To be honest i am quite enjoying it just the way it is.

Pat, I must have missed the humor in that one... If your referring to "the other forum" I would have went there already but choose not to support them.

I didn't mean anything negative in my comment, it was just an opinion. I would hope that everyone is out working! Just for me it’s part of my nightly relaxing time to unwind from the day to Perouse the forum for anything new and exciting.

Not sure what you're hoping to accomplish with your comment? You're of course free to contribute to speed things up.

Re: "Slow Forum"

Ian,
I agree. In fact, awhile back I sent an e-mail to Bennet saying the same thing. I told him Evan had a blog and asked if he might invite Evan to post on here which he did.I also asked one or two others to start blogs on here but they wern't into that. It could be as David said that we just came off the busy summer season and people were too busy to post.Hopefully things will pick up as the festival season winds down. It's still beter than the old place.

Ian, I certainly wasn't taking a shot at you personally. It was firmly tongue in cheek.

Re: "Slow Forum"

LOL... take a look at the Varsity forum and dive into the thread about EQ curves for full range systems.

Aside from the superficial things near the top, Nick Hickman, Phil Graham, Ivan Beaver and Art Welter have some meaty makin's there.

+1! You can say that again, Tim! I wish I lived near any of them so I could pick their brain on a regular basis.

You included, Tim.

Yeah, looking over a couple different sections your 100% correct. Maybe it was late and wasn't on top of my game. Your comment and reference to that thread makes me think of a quote I heard around here "The more you learn, the more you realize the less you know" (this might not have been the exact wording but close enough to understand). Guess I have some reading to do tonight!

Re: "Slow Forum"

I stand on the backs of giants and I see further... but I don't claim their expertise. All of the above plus Mac Kerr, Langston Holland, Gene Pink, Dave Stevens & Henry Cohen are on my "must read" authors list and I have gained (and continue to gain) significant knowledge and understanding from their contributions.

That's funny because you are also on MY must read list.

The sadly unfortunate fact is that now, neither forum really has what I'm looking for. The LAB still feels a little more advanced in some of the topics that get discusses, as in they are a little more accessible for high level theatre sound stuff, where this forum feels more like a rock and roll festival centric forum. It's easier to get in depth discussion on something like matrix coms over there--even then there's only a couple of people who contribute to that high level discussion. But the layout and organization of this forum feels better (and it lacks the adds that are so ever annoying on the LAB), and the spell check function works here. It's too bad really that the community split the way it did.

Re: "Slow Forum"

While I can see where it seems as if it's slightly slower than some of us may be used to, I have to admit that the content has still been amazing. Tim, that was a perfect thread to bring in regards to that.

My mind has been BLOWN with several of the threads lately. Thank you for sharing what you share, folks. It's fun to learn.

Unless one is doing TV or theater complexes or large scale production shows matrix com isn't that wide spread in sound reinforcement. Touring SR, even theater doesn't have the requirements that a theater/multi use complex or TV campus or large scale corporate has.

The split is what happens when you get people that don't know or care about the culture of the community and feel that it exists primarily as a means to generate revenue. The fact that in the initial stages of the transition it was shown that the powers that be didn't not understand the content or community or respect the contributions of the community.

Exactly right, Dave. We are a very small niche market within another niche market.

For the OP: The real value in these forums are the high levels of knowledge, experience, and skill that are represented here. I can't think of another single "place" where I could go and find such diversified experience from guys at the top of the industry. The traffic may not be quite as speedy as we would like when simply looking for something to pass the time but I think the forum, as a resource, is better for it.
