Some truth about investment and growth

Re: Some truth about investment and growth

I think the same argument could be made for the continued existence of rap music..........

Perhaps a forum filled predominantly with middle aged white guys is not the best litmus for the course of pop culture.

I mean, strictly speaking, we do want a future for music, and "music" don't we?

Re: Some truth about investment and growth

John, it's called a metaphor. Writers, EG Edward Abbey, use them. Smart people are supposed to be able to spot them.
I thought it was appropriate for the conversation.

Or, to spell it out. I was agreeing with Kristain. That just getting bigger is not always the right move.

Cute... I even understand what you are inferring by "spelling it out" for me. (use your imagination for what I am thinking in response). :)

It is a clever metaphor but IMO the cleverness does not trump the ugly.

PS: Cancer stil sucks....

Re: Some truth about investment and growth

While cancer does not have an ideology per se, it is the result of a failure of our cellular self-regulatory programmed cell death (apoptosis) of rouge random cell variants. This unchecked growth, of the wrong cells in the wrong place is a somewhat simplistic but adequate definition of that pervasive scourge on us all, as we cheat death from other causes.

One could argue that cancer is a failure of "regulation", and it is frustrating how something so simple in concept eludes a remedy. It makes you think maybe we aren't supposed to live forever (while cancer can attack young people too).

As long as we are on a biology veer, it is perhaps interesting (and a little scary) to consider the rise of drug resistant TB. Too many years of treatment with drugs that didn't completely kill TB, created an opportunity for the few resistant microbes to strengthen free of competition from the other common TB strains. Anybody still not believe in evolution? Maybe momma needs to rethink overuse of those disinfectant wipes... let the harmless bacteria dominate and eat all the food so the really nasty new bugs can't get a foothold.

PS: cancer sucks. :-(

PPS: a comprehensive philosophical inspection of this is long and twisted.... but the parallel is obvious so enjoy.

So JR, whats up?
Seems like an over reaction for me agreeing with someone "from a socialist" country.
Something else going on?

Regards, Jack

I work a lot of shows where there is music I don't necessarily enjoy at face value, but I usually try to enjoy either the talent or the atmosphere or, if nothing else, the gear! Besides it's a source of income.

Since we are speaking of business and investment, I'm sometimes surprised at what "content snobs" sound people can be - now if that isn't bad for business I don't know what is.

There is plenty of "music" that I have no fondness for or appreciation of. That doesn't stop me from giving my best efforts at those events, however. We want all our clients to be so happy with us they are willing to sign a contract for their next event, on the spot.

Re: Some truth about investment and growth

Here's another perspective on the debate over "what size is right":

We were just hired to do a gig that previously has always been handeled by much larger companies.

Turns out, the organizers have had their budget severely slashed this year and they decided that the size of the gig was now "in our territory".

So, through an organizer losing a lot of their funding we actually end up making money on that organizer. Food for thought, perhaps?

It's not necessarily my job to like the band and the music, it's my job to make them sound great.
