Soundcheck the entire band and then get to the soft spoken female vocal standing in the line of fire of the kick drum. I ended up switching her over to a hyper-cardiod condenser that I had to tighten her pattern. I actually checked her first because I knew there would be feed back issues in the wedges and when I went to check the kick drum I realized what we were up against. Mute her mic and the kick sounded beautiful, open it up and it became crap.
