Tascam CD-A500 Troubleshooting

I just picked up a used Tascam CD-A500 for $10. It is, however, broken. If I put a disc in the unit, I do not hear the familiar "squealch" noise that I associate with CD players, and I get a "No Disc" message. Any ideas on where to start troubleshooting? I've seen stories on the web of similar problems but no solutions.

I figure it's worth a little bit of time because a replacement would be a couple hundred bucks, and if it can't be fixed, it was only $10...

Open it up and make sure the transport is connected via it's cable from the main board. If it is and it appears the motor is NG, call Trashcam in E. Los Angeles and see if they still have parts. They can't be too expensive. OTOH, if something else is amiss, you might be right back where you started.
