Tell us what you see in your crystal ball....

Re: Tell us what you see in your crystal ball....

I have had this thread in the back of my mind for a while and have come up with two things I'd like to see:

- Digital snake head with display by each XLR that displays the same channels strip name as the tech at FOH has typed in on the mixer.

- IEM receivers and power amplifiers that can be given a numbered "identity" at souncheck. Come repatch time it doesn't matter which physical XLR in the return snake head they are plugged into, as long as they are "in touch" with the mixer the sound ends up in the right place.

Add PoE powered digital drop snakes to that list.

I think the person who invents a more efficient loudspeaker driver (without tradeoffs) is going to make a fortune. think less amp power-less power distro-so less size and weight on a truck-saving gas-saving #of trucks etc.

Think about LED's, vs any other type of lighting.

LED's have been around a long time-but only recently gotten to where there are bright enough for regular and stage lighting.

A lot of advances have been made in the loudspeaker driver dept, but the basic design has remained pretty much unchanged for close to a century.

We've been looking at LED theatrical lights, and have not found any that have the punch that the standard halogen lamps have. There are a few that come close, but they lose the ability to focus. We could double up on LED lamps, but we're already at the limit of our workable space with shows that run upwards of 500 lighting units anyway, and we wouldn't have the space to hang twice as many LEDs lights.
