Re: Tour Toys

I always enjoying seeing pics of people's touring rigs. Here's a cool pano from my fall tour.

Hey Adam

Is that a Vista 5 ? What are some on your favorite VST plugs ? A buddy of mind loves the Stillwell stuff

Yes, it's one of the best equipped Vista 5s in the country. The only plug-in we're using is Waves C6 via Waves MultiRack on a Studer-branded VST host. To be honest, the only reason we're using any plug-ins is because we needed a multiband compressor.

The Studer has a sound all its own that is truly amazing and the last thing I want to do is alter its pristine clarity. It remains a very featureless console when compared to the rest of the industry, but those who are chosing them for tours and whatnot are after that Studer sound that you really can't get anywhere else. I especially liked being able to move EQs by half a db and hear the difference.

As for adding plug-ins into the package, I'm very into the C6, but was able to hear it alter the sound of the channel even when it was not actively compressing anything. At the same time, I wasn't expecting it to sound as good as the processing on the Studer. I'm still one to highly recommend the C6 if you're looking to do multiband compression and dynamic eq-ing.

I too have also spent time on the Pro6. It's an awesome sounding console and definitely sounds like a Midas, which as all of us sound guys know is ''the goal.'' Unfortunately, I really wasn't into the user experience. As a good friend of mine put it so well: ''you can tell where in the design process the sound guy got fired.''

Re: Tour Toys

Had to get a few more pics of analog equipment into the thread. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics, but I don't have my camera with me on the road right now.
