Just trying to figure out if the subs would be better facing out, or down to the floor or even up toward the rear seat?

You might get lucky and fine someone here with auto sound experience, but this forum is really about pro sound reinforcement more than anything else (ie PA systems for bands & corporate events etc).

Car acoustics and sub models have so much variance that you should just try it a few different ways and see what works best. Some amps have a phase adjustment as well, which can help you get it dialed in. Good luck.
