I have a series of small shows I'm system provider for. Outdoors, beach resort type deal.
I keep a small mixer (qu16) at the stage and mix wirelessly with an ipad. At the shop it works fine, during soundcheck it works ok....sometimes it disconnects, but during the show when eveyones phones are trying to invade my network I have constant dropouts. I have hidden ssid, changed wifi channels, am using 5g on the router. Router is perched up above head level, and last show I was within 20' of the router since I ran a longer cat5 cable to a closer location.
What else can I try?

A tale from "beats the heck out of me" storybook: 6700 seat casino arena with open guest WiFi and I have no problems at showtime; much smaller venue about 500ft from arena and I've had spotty results when the proximate audience hits 500-700 folks. Small room also has open guest WiFi but terrible cellular coverage.

Right now I'm using EnGenius ESR900/1200 with good results in the smaller venue.

We've had a fair bit of discussion about WAP security so you may benefit from the forum's search tool.

Mine was set to auto srlect, but I did change it to a few of the higher options. No change.

Wondering if that could be because everyone was happily connected to the guest wifi instead of attacking yours?

Re: Wifi router troubles

Make sure you have the 2.4GHz shut off on your router - or at least make absolutely sure you are connecting to the 5GHz . The two frequencies should have separate SSIDs. Hiding the SSID doesn't really gain you anything BTW as all devices will see that you are encrypted and won't try to hit you. BTW did you clear all known networks in your iPad first? :

Re: Wifi router troubles

I haven't shut off 2.4g, as i sometimes use it to run a simple light show with my ipod, but I will try that next time. Will try resetting network settings as suggested in Ron's link.

Re: Wifi router troubles

So at the shop today I set everything up again, and tried resetting setting the networks on the ipad, turned off 2.4g on the router. I connect OK, but I noticed I disconnect from QU16 in short distance yet I can access the router OK from a much farther distance. When I get disconnected from the QU I still show a quite strong wifi signal from my ipad.
Does that give a clue to my issue?

A router is not needed if you assign your network setting manually and don't plan on accessing outside networks. They are powered off of PoE, which their router has. I can't remember if they come with a PoE injector or not.
