Hi Mike,
To send the Main LR mix to a Matrix, first press the select button above the Master Fader.
Now you can use the the first 6 Bus Encoders in the Channel strip to send to Matrix 1-6.
If you want to maintain your stereo image, first link a pair of Matrices before sending.
In your example, I would link 1+2.
Do this by selecting Matrix 1 on the 4th layer of output faders, pressing the view button near the mic preamp gain, and pressing the first rotary encoder near the screen. Now you will notice that the odd Matrix send (Encoder 1) will control level while the even Matrix send (Encoder 2) will control pan/balance.
Finally, when using the Matrix mixes you will need to assign them to outputs manually via the Analog Out page of the ROUTING Menu.
