Re: Hard drive recording card The RME is my secret weapon:-) The old Asus A6ja Laptop runs Xcontrol AND SAC ( www.softwareaudioconsole.com ) simultaniously. The loptop has a RME PCMCIA card and runs with 32 Samples. I measured the real roundtrip latency with "RTL"--> Round Trip Latency (RTL), J-Scope Oscilloscope and it says 4,12ms from analog in to analog out. Sadly, the channel delay resolution of the X32 is too coarse, so that you can't mix X32 channels with SAC channel exactly, without combfiltering. But it is doable, if you go like this: I always find it hard, to get a tight and defined kick drum sound in tents or venues with very reverbant room acoustics. In these cases I splitt the bass drum mic into three channels. Channel one is only for the musicians monitoring, so it goes into the X32 and I use it as a send for the monitors. Kick channel #2 features the original kick mike, this is routed into SAC by using the analog in/outs on the Multiface connected to the Aux in/outs on the X32 (as Inserts). In SAC I use the SPL Transient Desiger Plugin and the Fab Filter ProEQ. I low cut the mike to 250-350 Hz and just go after the natural "kick/stroke/attack" sound in this channel. I do the same on kick channel#3, but with the opposite purpose. I run Drumgog4 in live mode (zero latency) and use one of my own bass drum samples, just to get an insanly tight and fat low end. Therefore I high cut everything above 4kHz and just go with the low end. I set "dynamic tracking" in Drumagog to 20-30%, or for metal bands and such I don't use dynamic tracking at all. In the end, I mix both channels to my liking and you should end up with an tight low end without these silly "typewriter" sound, when solely using samples. Sometimes I use the Waves SSL Bus compressors for parallel compression...the possebilities are only limited by the six Aux inputs, that I use as inserts. I go with them instead with the XUF card, because the RME is rocksolid, lower in latency and foremost, I can still record the show on multitrack. Christian
