In an ideal world, every fader is at 0, and your PA is setup to give you whatever coverage and volume you need. Then when things sound buried, you try to "sculpt" away other sources (bring down the level lightly) to allow the buried source to breath. Again this is one of way of going about it. I tend to try and run my master around -5 to 0, and if any faders are seriously reduced to the -30 to -40 range, it's the channels. If I find many of the channel faders are needing serious drops in level, then I may drop my master, raise the others, and accommodate whatever else needs to be shifted. Like anything else in audio, you want good even transference of levels, not serious attenuation points followed or preceded by seriously boosted levels. Hope that makes sense.

[QUOTE="Chris Wadden, post: 92903, member: 2583"] Re: X32 solo channel Hey Eric, I'm curious to the different things a word clock option would get you. Maybe using a "better" word clock, al la Apogee Big Ben, to achieve cleaner results with the mixers sampling? Or is it about connecting external devices to the X32? Thanks for any info!! I believe there was a setting labeled something like "Solo/MC follows main fader". I could be wrong I don't have the board in front of me. Really what I'm replying with is my surprise someone is saying the solo level is too loud! I can never get enough volume out of the solo in my headphones. It's one if not the most annoying things about the board. Maybe I run my gains a little cooler than others, and so I'm getting less volume. Otherwise, there is really no "right" way to do it. In an ideal world, every fader is at 0, and your PA is setup to give you whatever coverage and volume you need. I tend to try and run my master around -5 to 0, and if any faders are seriously reduced to the -30 to -40 range, it's the channels. If I find many of the channel faders are needing serious drops in level, then I may drop my master, raise the others, and accommodate whatever else needs to be shifted.
