Re: Scribble strip gripe Let's look at this from a practical point of view... Other than typing names into the channel strip, and naming scenes, what use would a connected keyboard be? In the workflow of a show, I've never hit a point where I've thought "damn, I need a keyboard in order to make this bit faster/easier to do". Sure, I could always use more faders, who couldn't, but a keyboard? Not yet. When you think about it, most synths out there don't have a qwerty keyboard (actually I can only think of one, the Fairlight, but that wasn't really a synth). Ever tried writing a patch name on a Roland D50? That only had four buttons for the process, iirc (incr, decr, cursor left and cursor right). The rotary knob on the X32 is luxury by comparison. Rather than integrate external hardware, why not replace the screen with a touch screen or replace the iPhone holder with a number/letter pad? All those options would require additional R&D and add to the unit cost. Who's to say that things like that weren't considered during the design of the X32 anyway? With all that a keyboard could be used for, that would be a lot of development time for relatively little return. At the moment there are two ways of naming a channel. 1. using the desk or 2. using a remotely connected device (laptop, iPad, etc). The useability of the X32 increases exponentially when a laptop is connected; even further when an iPad is added as well. It goes well beyond being able to name channels quickly and is a much better use of resources, imo. Personally, I think this arrangement is good. I can use a laptop of a spec of my choosing, and am not bound by a specific version of the iPad either. But, let's think about this from another point of view, how many other desks out there, and AT THIS PRICE POINT, can use an external keyboard (not a laptop)? Ever tried naming a channel on an LS9? It's the same process and there's no sign that it's going to allow a connection to a keyboard any time soon. Karl.
