X32 - XControl, Routers and WiFi

Re: X32 - XControl, Routers and WiFi

Apologies if this re-opens a can of worms...

I've read somewhere on these boards about the distinction between Wireless Access Points (WAPs) and Wireless Routers for use enabling remote control of a digital mixer. A bit of research shows that the WAP cannot host a network, assign DHCP, nor connect to an ISP, while a wireless router does all of that in addition to providing wireless access. Additionally, economy of scale seems to have brought prices of routers below that of WAPs, despite their increased functionality.

So, if you were planning to install a wi-fi device in a road case to connect your X32 Rack to an iPad for remote control, which type of device would you choose, and why?

I would try to find a simple router, without wifi if you can find one.
And a ubiquiti access point with POE.
That way you can easily place the wap high in the sky, for instance on a mic stand without a lot of cables...

Re: X32 - XControl, Routers and WiFi

I'm using a wifi router with almost the same configuration as I use at home. The router provides a network configuration with DHCP and so on. The network 'on the road' is the same as at home so I do not have to change the static IPs of the mixer. This allows me also to use the same config for X32-Edit and X32-Mix. And i have a different router model with the same confiuration as a spare device. No problems with that setup so far.
