Does anyone have a sense of the reliability of the XR 16? My boss is wary after our x-32 died.
Thanks,
Mick Berg

Re: XR 16 reliability

I'd expect the reliability to be as good as anything else in its class. Yes, some will fail. That happens with all electronics. Having a backup plan ready is key.

Personally, I'm getting rid of my XR12, not for reliability problems, but because I absolutely hate the interface in comparison to the X32. I'll be replacing it with another X32 rack. Then I'll have plenty of spares to go around if one does decide to give up the ghost.

Re: XR 16 reliability

My XR18 has been solid so far. I've had it for almost a year. I'd expect better reliability due to the lack of moving parts. Only one knob and one switch. As long as the PCBs are decent and there are no thermal issues, it should stay reliable. The only caveat I've run into is the built in WiFi is very poor. Ever since I switched over to an external Apple Airport Extreme, I've had no wireless control issues using iPad. I still keep a touch screen laptop hardwired to the router at all times though for backup and access to some features that aren't in the tablet apps yet.

Re: XR 16 reliability

Installed an XR18 in a local club and bought one for myself as well. Both have been working well without incident. Both systems use an external WAP for better wireless performance. The XR18 in the local club got its baptism by fire by basically running three days straight handling sound for 40 bands in a weekend. YMMV.

Thanks for the replies. We have ordered the XR 16, looking forward to the automixer function.

Re: XR 16 reliability

I did my first show with the XR 16 last night, using it as an external automixer. It worked very well.
The iPad app is useless as the automixer feature is not included. The Android app is too minimal, no indication of gain reduction. The PC app wins, very good.

My XR18 has been bullet proof for a year, I love it. If you click on the meter tap in the android app it will show gain reduction for every channel

I'm not findng it. I see gain reduction for the compressors, but not the automix. Can you explain further?
Thanks,
Mick

Re: XR 16 reliability

No. If this is based on the expired Dan Dugan patent, it's gain-sharing scheme based on the number of open mics (NOM). How the algorithm determines which mics are "hot" and which are not is the magic of Dan's work.

Wow, that's a great idea. I've totally become a near-brain-dead bass player again!...))

Seriously, I run an XR-18 with an iPad Pro for my small-room band gigs. My MacBook Pro is sitting right there for music playback and if the band gets a wild hair to record 16 tracks (which is seldom, thankfully).

I can't believe it never occurred to me to connect the MacBook to the XR (well, the router) as a back-up, plus mute group control. Not to mention I can stop being excoriated for taking one of the grandkids' iPads as a back-up (the fact that I paid for all of them means nothing. NOTHING!..)))

I wish Apple would get over that "no touch-screen MacBooks" thing, though. As well as a few others..

We have multiples of the range, X32's for nearly four years. We have full sized x32, racks, s32, XR18, XR12. We had a power supply fault in a full size x32, but this isn't a reflection of the brand. I've seen most digital consoles with their hood up at one time or another. The XR's are simply brilliant. ALSO, I can load scenes, channel presets, and effect presets from my x32 files onto the xr18. That represents a fantastically scalable solution. We're a regional company on a small island in the south pacific.

Re: XR 16 reliability

The B-boyz implemented a gating function as well that always leave the last mic that was being used open when it is enabled. This is only in affect when no one is speaking.

Well Dugan does that too. I'm fed up with all this bickering, I'm unsubscribing.
