There are valid concerns about deep drilling for geo-thermal energy in some older populated areas die to potential to precipitate fault slippage. There is no such thing as a man made earthquake (contrary to the James Bond movies), but we might alter the arrival time and precise location by miles and a few thousand years. IIRC there was a decision to shut down one program in Switzerland over fears that priceless old buildings could get damaged by even a mild shake.
Imagine the ambulance chaser's bonanza from such man triggered events.
