iLive Goes Night Surfing

West Country sound company, Evosound Pro Audio, managed PA requirements for the recent Night Surf event held at Lusty Glaze in Newquay, Cornwall, employing its Allen & Heath iLive digital mixing system to run FOH and monitors for bands, which included headline performances by Reef and The Kooks.

Night Surf is a sporting and music event, comprising a surf contest during the day with participation from many pro surfers, and a music event by night including a mixture of local talent and renowned bands.
Evosound first purchased an iLive system, comprising an iDR-48 MixRack and iLive-T112 Control Surface, in 2010, and has recently ordered a second, duplicate iLive system.

”’The flexibility & user friendliness of iLiveT112/iDR-48 means it is never in our warehouse and always out on hire. In my view, iLive has rapidly become an industry standard and continues to exceed our customers’ expectations,” explains Mark Claxton, MD of Evosound.

“Probably the most important thing about iLive at this event is the fact that two crew loaded two systems down 130 steps to the beach in wind and rain in only 20 minutes. You couldn’t manage that with many pro digital systems!” Claxton adds

Reef’s monitor engineer, Jamie Hickey, commented:

“My show file was already loaded so when I arrived I could get straight on with ringing out the wedges using the iPad app. 10 minutes later we were ready for line check!”

Hickey previously took iLive out on two European tours with the Tindersticks.

“I think iLive is a fantastic system for touring and install. Its flexibility and compact size means you can do pretty much any show, anywhere and still have room to bring your favourite mixing stool! I’m certainly relieved to see an iLive when I arrive at a venue. A great feature of the iLive system is the ability to assign monitor mixes to different PFL outputs, which isn’t a new concept but the fact that iLive switches the PFL output automatically, means that both listen wedge faders can stay at 0db and you’ll only ever hear one at a time,” Hickey concludes.
