Nashville, TN – February 2019… As the home of country music and the most populous city in Tennessee, Nashville is home to numerous country music artists, recording studios, awards shows, and other aspects of the music industry. There’s also a vibrant nightlife that further reinforces Nashville as a leading entertainment destination. Ensuring that the live music venues have the best sound reinforcement systems possible is a crucial aspect of keeping both the performers and their fans coming back. In that regard, DAS Audio is at the cutting edge. Loudspeakers from the company’s Event and Vantec series catalogs were recently deployed at three key nightspots: FGL House, Jason Aldean’s Kitchen, and Luke’s 32 Bridge.
High Wire Productions (HWP) of Nashville, a design / build firm and live production services company, was contracted to design and deploy the sound systems for FGL House, Jason Aldean’s Kitchen, and Luke’s 32 Bridge. After consulting with company management to ascertain their goals and expectations, the HWP team created systems using a combination of DAS Audio Event and Vantec series loudspeakers. Matt Jones, President of High Wire Productions, discussed the projects and his reasons for deploying DAS loudspeaker systems.
“With all three venues situated in the country music mecca of downtown Nashville, FGL House features music daily—focusing specifically on today’s country trends,” Jones explained. “Jason Aldean’s Kitchen and Rooftop Bar serves a menu that is a mix of the artist’s southern cooking favorites, steaks, pastas, salads and more, while Luke’s 32 Bridge has close ties with artist Luke Bryan and is a 30,000 square foot multi-level entertainment facility, featuring 6 levels, 8 bars, and 4 stages with live music and two restaurants. All three locations play an integral role in Nashville’s music scene, so the sound systems at these venues had to be world class, which was a key factor in our decision to deploy DAS Audio.”
“With live music production being a key aspect of our business, we had several members of the HWP team involved in the various aspects of these three projects,” Jones continued. “This included Bo Greenlee, our Production Manager, A1, monitors, and crew leader, along with Kris Shumate, FOH assistant, monitors, A2, and engineering manager, as well as Drake Wise, FOH engineer and installation technician, and Ryan Waglea, also a FOH engineer and installation technician. Each member of this team contributed their expertise to ensure that all three installations met the requirements for top tier acts.”
The DAS Event 208A 3-way, active line array is a crucial component of all three installations. Sixteen Event 208A loudspeakers were deployed at FGL House—and these were augmented by six DAS Event 218A powered subwoofers. At Jason Aldean’s Kitchen, the loudspeaker system consists of twelve DAS Event 208A loudspeakers, several Vantec 12A and Vantec 15A powered, 2-way point source loudspeaker enclosures, along with six DAS Event 218A powered subwoofers. At Luke’s 32 Bridge, the setup includes four DAS Event 208A loudspeakers, along with a combination of DAS Vantec 12A and Vantec 15A enclosures. Ten Vantec 218A powered subwoofers provide low-end support.
When queried about those aspects of the DAS Event and Vantec loudspeaker systems that made them well-suited for these three installations, Jones offered the following thoughts. “The music reproduction and speech intelligibility delivered by these loudspeakers is exceptional,” Jones reports. “The clarity and musicality of these loudspeakers is exceptional and their ability to operate 16 hours a day / 365 days a year says volumes about their reliability. Equally important is the hardware available for these systems, which made installations that much easier. Combined with excellent dispersion characteristics and solid build quality, there’s tremendous value in DAS equipment.”
Now that the DAS Audio equipment has been operational at each venue for several months, Jones reflected on the outcome. “Given the constant operation of these loudspeakers and the inevitable abuse that naturally occurs in venues like these, the DAS equipment has fared very well. With 100+ hours of use a week, these loudspeakers get slammed for hours on end and keep reproducing high quality audio without issue. I am blown away with how hard I can run this brand and it keeps on going.”
