Yamaha PM10s Used as GRAMMY™ Premiere and Ceremony Production Mixer

BUENA PARK, Calif. (February 20, 2018)—Independent mixer Erik von Ranson handled front of house audio mix duties for the 60th GRAMMY™ Awards Premiere Ceremony held in the Theater at Madison Square Garden using a Yamaha RIVAGE PM10 Digital Audio Console. He mixed in-theater audio, including 75 award presentations, house band “Paul Schaffer and The World’s Most Dangerous Band”, plus five additional musical acts.

von Ranson says he previously used the PM10 for the NBA Draft event and Night of Too Many Stars. “I often have to mix by numbers and meters when working on a live TV show as I’m not always able to monitor all of the signal paths. I find that much easier on Yamaha consoles than on any other manufacturer’s console.”

von Ranson said that the PM10’s large input/output count and sophisticated routing, as well as 64-channels of Dan Dugan Designs auto-mixer “makes the use of a PM10 as a production desk hard to beat. Also, to my ears, it is probably the best sounding digital console I’ve used.”

In addition to the GRAMMY Premiere event, a Yamaha PM10 was also used at the live broadcast. Firehouse Productions, New York, provided both consoles. V.P. of Design, Mark Dittmar, chose the PM10 for both events.  “The legendary reliability of Yamaha desks makes it the prefect choice for high profile shows like the GRAMMY Awards. They sound amazing and flexible card slot options make it very easy to integrate into large shows like this.”
