Aren't we better than this?

Re: Aren't we better than this?

What if she was a really hot car? Are we devaluing the car by trying to associate its desirability with the product?

Perhaps the ad is tacky, but I do not think it is morally depraved especially as it was printed for another culture which I am not a member of. Many many cultures have a much more matter of fact approach to sexuality than we do here.

and some cultures are even more uptight than we are... :-)

It's marketing. You need to know your target audience, and what gets their attention. If you put this ad in a corporate install targeted magazine, it would look way out of place. But in a roadie rag, it will get a lot of attention.

Obviously as a brand, you need to know that if you go too far over the top, the opposite end of your customer base may take offense to the ad, but in reality, you have to go pretty far for it to hurt sales.

You might be surprised that these types of ads are frowned upon in most of my part of the world, yet our attitude towards sexuality (you know, the real one between humans, not the sexuality in car ads kind ), sexual education towards young children, openly gays/lesbians, unisex toilets, porn, etc, etc, is seemingly a lot more straight-forward and relaxed as compared to, for instance, the USA.

The way I'm raised these ads are undisreable for the various reasons I have stated earlier in the thread.

Personally, I'm not horribly offended, but I think it's dumb to use boobs to sell mixers. I like boobs, I just feel that they have so little to do with the product at hand that I know the ad-maker is including them only to get me a little aroused so I'll read their ad. If the ad has so little merit on it's own that it needs to arouse me to get attention, I'd rather just ignore it.

It would be a lot more honest of them if they were trying to sell me some porn .

This ^^^, Its hilarious how socially unacceptable sex is to most American's including many of my own family. It did get attention thrown their way, and quite a few people with pocket books big enough to buy the product paid attention. At least in my area.
