I work for a guy who hires me to A1 for him on his bigger jobs, but occasionally he takes to labeling the console before I get to it...
He labels based on stage position... So the guy downstage right is first, and if he's a singing and playing an instrument, it might be something like
Ch1 - electric gtr
Ch2 - acoustic di
Ch3 - DSR Vocal
And so on across the stage, then the backline guys in the same order.
When he does this, it absolutely does my head in. Trying to do a quick soundcheck when you've got stuff all over the place like that is just such a pain. Having vocals spread across the entire console is really a pain, and trying to figure it all out in someone else's handwriting is just impossible.
The last gig I did with him, I just ran fresh board tape, re-labeled over his nonsense and re-patched the console. I'm not sure he even noticed.
