Core Knowledge?

So I haven't seen a thread geared toward the x32 core. If there is shoot me, if not, bear with me.
Just unpacked my core, plugged my airport extreme in, opened the airport utility on my pc based laptop, opened the x32 app on my Ipad mini. and opened the x32Q app on my Iphone. Here's what I got's...

The core IP is:10.0.1.2
The core subnet is: 255.0.0.0
The core gateway is: 10.0.1.2

The Ipad IP is:10.0.1.2
The Ipad subnet is: 255.0.0
The Ipad router is:10.0.1.3
I have the X32 mix app open. It shows an x32 console IP of:127.0.0.1 lit in green
In the status/subnet mask box, it says "listening" in red letters. That is all
The Ipad mini "sees" the router as it has a checkmark next to that network.
Not connecting to the core.

The Iphone, with the x32Q app open is seeing the core. The app is showing an IP of: 10.0.1.2 and shows as connected. in the info box it says, "x32core 1.14.0" then it says "update console" in red letters & will not let me connect.

When I open the airport app on the laptop & connect to that network all is good. It shows the 10.0.1.2 IP address, plus the version & airport ID. Here's the thing with this, when I try to do anything within the app, I get a message that says" This device and it's network services will be temporarily unavailable". Hit continue & it changes to "An error occurred while trying to access the Apple wireless device". "Make sure your network connection is valid & try again".

The box seems happy, green light & all. The app shows the green light as well.

What can I change here to get everything communicating?

Re: Core Knowledge?

The core IP is:10.0.1.2
The core subnet is: 255.0.0.0
The core gateway is: 10.0.1.2

The Ipad IP is:10.0.1.2
The Ipad subnet is: 255.0.0
The Ipad router is:10.0.1.3

Well there's your problem. Try setting the iPad ip to be something else in the same subnet, like 10.0.1.4. Your devices are currently using the same ip, so how would they know where to send the data?

Re: Core Knowledge?

The subnet settings might not necessarily make a difference, but 255.255.255.0 is the usual setting.
Preferably you want to use static ip. If you use dynamic ip, make the Core ip high enough that it will always be unique, like 10.0.1.20

And the app probably wants you to update the core firmware to 1.15

Re: Core Knowledge?

255.255.255.0 is the norm for 192.168.x.x series ip addresses. 10.x.x.x series is a class A subnet, and generally has a subnet mask of 255.0.0.0.

That said, each network can always be broke down into smaller subnets by adding bits to the subnet mask.

Re: Core Knowledge?

I'm definitely on an IT guy. After changing the Ipad to 10.0.1.4, it shows 127.0.0.1 in the x32 console IP address box, 10.0.1.4 in the this ipad box, and 255.0.0.0 in the this ipad status/subnet mask box. However it still won't connect. Still says "listening" in the x32 console status/subnet mask box.
Also, the app on the laptop won't connect with the airport.
Any ideas?

Re: Core Knowledge?

Use the following

Airport express: 10.0.1.1
MASK 255.255.255.0 (Yes 10. adresses is usually 255.0.0.0, but 255..0.0 will give you a network of over 16.000 addresses - 255.255.255.0 will make the network more manageable with 255 addresses 10.0.1.1 to 10.0.1.255 (you can't use 10.0.1.255 though)

Core: 10.0.1.2
Gateway: 10.0.1.1
Mask 255.255.255.0

Ipad: 10.0.1.3
Gateway 10.0.1.1
Mask 255.255.255.0

So ingeneral ALL devices run the same Mask 255.255.255.0 and the same gateway 10.0.1.1 (Airport router)... So additional devices will be 10.0.1.4 ... 5.. 6 - any up to 253

This will work..

Run current iPad version and Firmware 1.15 on you core and then you are set to go...

Sweet! Thanx for everyone's help. I have applied those settings to the core & the ipad, but I can't change the airport setting. Can't get the laptop airport utility to connect to the airport. Something wrong there....

Re: Core Knowledge?

Damned airport is kicking my arse. I removed & re-installed the latest version of the airport app for windows. Still no dice. The app "finds" the airport, but refuses to interface. I get this message:

error 6753
An error occured while trying to acces the apple wireless device.Make sure your network connection is valid & try again
I've done the soft reset, the hard reset, the factory reset. Nothing. It shows an IP of 10.0.1.2 right now

Re: Core Knowledge?

Geez, I don't know what I've done to deserve this. Never had a problem updating the big board, this one just get's stuck at "usb updater waiting". Tried two different sticks. At least the ipad I now connected to the core & "in control" a it should be Flashing yellow light on airport though, instead of green. Hmmm....

Re: Core Knowledge?

When I first updated my core to 1.15, I had to hold the button (by the usb port, view, I think...) In - while it booted to get the firmware to load.

Re: Core Knowledge?

I did. Neither x32 has liked sandisk drives. I'll get something else tomorrow. The Denon DN-700 C just got here. Now I get to add it to the network & see if it will all play nicely....

Re: Core Knowledge?

Newer Sandisk drives always need a deep format... A "quick" format doesn't work for some reason. Even then, sometimes the don't truly show up as "blank". I guess that's what we get for buying the cheapest thumb drives. Never again.

Re: Core Knowledge?

Hold button down - while hitting power switch on, it only takes a few seconds to tell if your in the firmware boot screen or if it missed it and is in it's regular boot screen. Sometimes you just can't get it to load up on some thumbdrives though...

Do you remember about how long you held it in? I waited at least 3 minutes before releasing it....
