What - that fuckin guitar has to be louder ????
In spite of what Neil may believe, Pat is the draw, not him.

Re: Disturbing news....

They're coming to a local venue this fall, and in all of the marketing material they get equal billing. Pat must really love him.

Their rider is an ugly mess, too. Lucky they are carrying everything by the time they do our show.

I have read about where has happened before with movie stars. Usually though the budding star weans off of the host star and becomes a star in their own right in due time. The presence of a movie producer and movie director is a big advantage here.

But back to the music industry...I haven't seen these two perform live but it sounds like somebody isn't giving somebody else enough room in their performance space... Not much you can do without somebody in the band who is capable of and willing to play the role of "impartial music director". It is what it is, I guess.

Re: Disturbing news....

Yup, saw the same thing in our local rags.
Next it will be Neil Giraldo rocks out to Pat Benatar tunes.

Re: Disturbing news....

IMNSHO, it's about the hubby's ego.

I liked Pat's singing and stage presence (and still do), but Neil is a distraction that creates unnecessary friction with almost every creative or technical person he encounters.

But I think you're right about money being involved somehow... possibly when it comes time to sell the rights.

Almost? Really Tim, you know better than that.
Anyone, (please, ANYONE) put up your hand if you can say "I had Pat B. at my house the other day, and the show was a treat"
I know I can't.
In all fairness, Pat's a pussycat to deal with. Neil, not so much.
Again, in all fairness, my "experiance" was in the mid 90's. Things may have changed, but seeing the billing, I wouldn't count on it !

Re: Disturbing news....

They were support with us for a week on a casino and corndog tour I did with the girls some years back. I had no problems with him, but I basically ignored him. Others he encountered, like his poor mon guy, not so much.

OK, so the show was last night.
(I wasn't there..) The radio reports all say it was a great show and Pat still "has it"
Shane, been to the show yet ? Or are you next up ? (yes, I'm too lazy to look up the timetable...)

I saw it sept 26th...

Loverboy was great - they opened the show, volume was decent and everything was mixed well....
Pat came out, sang well - it for sure was hte neil show, although I thought it was going to be MUCH worse... volume came up a bit
and the BE got it together in a couple of songs.... it was good by the end... didn't play shadows of the night, one of my fav's
oh yeah, they sequenced the keys, but didn't bother to add bg's ...wierd

Journey came out - looked like 4 old guys and a run around performer... louder and stuff was out of place, can't explain what was wrong exactly, but it just sounded wrong - I guess my expectations were high for the headliner to sound smokin. Played alot of B side stuff ( not that journey has much B side), but they weren't crankin out the "cherry picked" hits...
I'm not a huge journey fan, (or that old) but there were 3 songs I hadn't heard of before... keyboard solo en....

Clair I rig...

Come to think of it, the radio folks raved about the Loverboy set, how great Pat was, although with shorter heels on than in the "old days". They didn't mention Journey. After the puff piece, they played "Don't Stop Believing"
Guess they weren't impressed with Journey either.
Oh well.
ZZ-Top tonight.....
