Easy digital mixer

Re: Easy digital mixer

Peter, many reasons for not going with the digital snake at this time. One lower cost, two having instant access to my EQ's ( Ashley Protea 4 channel) .
Ummmm that's not instant... I know cause I have an ashley.
What I mean by that is , it's no more work than what you would do on the digital console (Behringer, Midas PRO,Yamaha, etc).... have you touched a digital console yet?

While the digital snake is lighter and easier to set up tear down,it would also be more prone to damage especially at some of the fairs and car shows where people with motorized wheel chairs or golf carts run over them.I only have 10 ft of ramp and some cones so I can't protect 150 ft of snake .
Again, I would be even MORE prone to protect my copper snake, than a piece of cat5 (CAT 5 Value about $500, if you're buying "the good stuff")
The other, other option would be to have a box of home depot cat 5 and a crimper ready to make a new back-up digital snake run, should something happen to the main laid one. OR if you're bent on using copper at that point.... grab the digital snake heads from the stage - walk them out to FOH, and plug them back in with a 3' piece of cat5, run your copper and snake head to the stage , plug in micorphones and tails at the console end and get on with it.
Captain Obvious... out....

Peter, many reasons for not going with the digital snake at this time. One lower cost, two having instant access to my EQ's ( Ashley Protea 4 channel) and 3 having my DSP at FOH. I still want the digital for many other reasons like gates, reverb 4 band parametric eq's on each channel, recall etc. While the digital snake is lighter and easier to set up tear down,it would also be more prone to damage especially at some of the fairs and car shows where people with motorized wheel chairs or golf carts run over them.I only have 10 ft of ramp and some cones so I can't protect 150 ft of snake. The PRO 1 has the option, that if I go with the digital snake in the future,I could always pull out the copper and get the show back up and running if the CAT 5 is damaged. Can't do that with most other digital consoles.

FWIW – both the Midas and the Allen & Heath require the press of one button to get to the GEQ.

The Midas will bring it up on 8 faders the moment you select the aux send and the the GLD will display it on a touch screen. With the press of one more button, the GLD will put it on faders, or you can just use the touch screen.

The Midas has a iPad app that allows you to have the GEQ displayed all the time. I believe an app for the GLD is about to be released.(if not already)

With respect to the cat 5 multicore, I find it much easier to install and protect a couple of pieces of cat 5 than a copper multicore. There are also a lot of simple options to fly the cat5 that are not possible with a large copper core.

Having said that, there is no reason why you can not use a copper snake with the GLD
