Equipment rumor mill

Re: Equipment rumor mill

Horizontal pattern control will only be possible in a hang of two or more wide. Likely not a problem since most people will hang two wide anyway because of anya's 60 degree pattern. I'm curious how effective its horizontal control will be simply delaying one column versus the other. Goes back to the discussion of granularity.......
But if you are saying that having 2 wide to get 120° and THEN being able to do steering-that is not possible. Because the cabinets are covering different areas.

You can only do steering when the cabinets are basically covering the same area.

If you put 2 speakers side by side and simply "delay one" you may be able to fix some freq-but will most likely make it worse for the rest of the freq specturm.

You have to look at the WHOLE picture-not just a single freq.

That is why it is VERY IMPORTANT to look at multiple freq in any loudspeaker configuration-WITHOUT CHANGING ANYTHING EXCEPT FREQ. One freq may look great-but be horrible at others.

I have seen predictions at which the "designer" changed delay times for each freq he was showing. So HOW do we do that in the real world???????????

Re: Equipment rumor mill

All-pass filters will do this (with some limitations)...
But when you start talking several milliseconds and a different time for each octave (or narrower) it gets pretty stupid real quick.

Combine that with a speaker that has different arrival times from the different drivers-which need their own set of filters and you are quickly out of "normal".
