Freelancers, do any of you carry mixing consoles?

I know that place. Better take some cables as well, they were down to 17 that worked last time I was in there.

But at least they have those wonderful monitors that him and hiss constantly to let you know they are one.

Oh yeah, and the tap button that fell out of the effects unit 6 months ago and was last seen taped to the board.

And joking aside, I had trouble with channel 1 intermittantly assigning last time in there.

I always carry my own mics, a few Radial DIs, adapters, tools, etc.. in a small pelican case. As for a console I'll bring an M7 or an LS9 is the house console is not adequate. An X32 would be on the list of NOT adequate.

Depending on the size of the gig I would take the following.

- Yamaha PM5D/M7CL/ LS9
- Avid Profile/SC48
- Pro2/Pro1
- Any good quality analog with good outboard. (Midas Heritage, PM4000, etc...)

Funny, I would take an X32 over an LS9 or M7CL any day.

I don't consider avid or midas mixers to be JV level. The first venue I'd be doing this in has a floor capacity of 2-300 guests. Current mixer there is a soundcraft lx7 (first series!) and some paltry outboard. The current PA is usable, but is getting upgraded to something decent. 24/8 snake is relatively new. It is more of an alternative arts culture space. A pro 2 has no place there.

I have a mic kit, wireless rig, live recording rig, split snake, X32 Compact w/ 32ch digital snake, and a 3 camera video kit. I am a freelancer and small provider, and I find being able to supplement my freelancing gigs opens doors to larger contracts and bigger payouts. That said, I'll often supplement pieces without billing if it provides me with more convenience and confidence.
