I'm new to this and was wondering about these products shown in sound forums?

Ron,

I take no issue with you pursuing your cause. The only problem I have is with your approach. You made a video and posted it on YouTube titled "Long Island Medium - Proof She Wears a Wireless Earpiece" outlining a trade PR piece as "proof" that Caputo is a fraud. However, there was nothing in that article or the accompanying photo supporting your case. In the comments to that that video, you had support for your cause (opinions), but you also had quite a number of people pointing out that your attack (in this particular case) was off base due to your misunderstanding of the equipment pictured and described in that article.

After several days and perhaps a dozen comments both public and private (at your admission) you relented, saying something to the effect that you had people telling you that you were wrong. You claimed that "if this turns out to be the case, [you] will apologize in a video."

You also came here to SoundForums and asked your questions about the photo in that article, and what kind of equipment was pictured in that photo. You received several answers, basically refuting your original premise.

Since then, the original YouTube video has been made private (but not deleted): YouTube

And yet there is no apology forthcoming.

Or is there?

I won't apologize to her and the seed has been planted. It's just a matter of time before a sound engineer (I'm not a sound engineer) comes forward and intercepts her conversation. OR, Jeff James comes forward and offers information.

I appreciate everyone's participation and expertise.

Thanks.

I spoke with a couple of stagehands that worked in the audio department at Caputo's recent event here. Neither of them could verify or deny the presence of an IEM or IFB system being used by her.

There are lots of wireless signals in use at any event that is being recorded for TV or video release. Certainly not impossible to find and monitor the frequencies in use, but you won't find a member of the local crew doing that unless it's part of his/her job. If one of them encountered the kind of deception you are eager to demonstrate and absent a non-disclosure agreement, (s)he would be professionally obligated to not publicly disclose it any more than (s)he would discuss a magician's secrets or identify by name those popular music performers who lip-sync major portions of their concerts or use software to fix their singing pitch in real time. I suppose the fundamental difference is that folks buy concert tickets knowing they are paying for "spectacle" and that some objects may be closer/smaller/larger than they appear.

In the case of Ms Caputo and her cohorts, all I can say is that people give money to churches, too. Slightly different motivations, perhaps, but philosophically requiring trust in things unseen and not scientifically provable.

RT...

Your pain is obvious. What happened to you to make you so unhappy? Please seek help in dealing with your demons. Projecting them onto the world outside you will not give you any relief.

<snip>. On a related note, I have seen combination headset or earset microphones with an integral earpiece advertised, but now I can't find them with a web search - maybe they didn't survive in the market.
Countryman has the EM6 cable, designed to work with Shure IEM's (and their E6's). But not as a single product.

My attitude? How can you detect attitude? Coy, no; however, I am looking for expertise and this is the place. Ignorant? Nope, just not informed and I respect the knowledge of the experts. Threats? Where did I threatened? Rude? How can you detect rudeness from text? Text lacks human emotion.

Ban Emeril.jpegI have been waiting to use this image for a long time. I trust this settles the non-technical side of this issue for everyone, but anyone wishing to continue to discuss the ramifications of intercepting baseband or digital audio at the frequencies we use for IEM foldback is welcome to.

Welp. This mildly entertaining sideshow act just bit the dust. Kinda like peeking under the skirt of the bearded lady and seeing her honker.

Ron, there are people that will take advantage of others. Always has been, always will be. Our job on this planet is to not be the sucker, and to hopefully teach your children how to not be suckered as well. In the wise words of "Shit My Dad Says":

"A parent's only as good as their dumbest kid. If one wins a Nobel Prize but the other gets robbed by a hooker, you failed."

Glad the guy got banned. Professional trolls aren't worth the bandwidth.

But...

Interesting topic for discussion. What can we intercept in the RF spectrum in a show situation? And what can we legally do with what we intercept [assuming no NDA is in place]?

I agree with the point made above [By Tim IIRC] that we as production professionals wouldn't divulge 'show secrets' as it's frankly just really unprofessional. That being said, it's an interesting 'what if' question. And it at least justifies me using up several minutes of my precious life reading the OP's Literally Ignorant posts in this thread.

Some things beg to be recorded and placed in an envelope marked "to be opened in the event of my death". ;) At the rate technology is advancing it might be wise to include the playback device with the recording...

I think we've come across what might be called the "Snowden Conundrum"...

Remember that the ULX-D wireless system sports AES Encryption, which would be quite a bit harder to grab out of the air and decode in real time.

From Wikipedia:
Ignorance is a state of being uninformed (lack of knowledge).
Main difference between ignorant and stoopid is that the former can be fixed. Socrates was fond of pointing out that he was ignorant but working on it ;) .
