Normal mice with scroll wheels work fine. You may find that the multitouch gestures will be preferable to using a mouse. That is somewhat application dependent, but I find that I prefer to work on the machine with its trackpad rather than my external monitor, keyboard, and mouse.

Some prefer to get the glossy type of screen so they could use it as some form of mirror, though I would go with the matte screen just to get that unnecessary glare when it bounces from the sun.

I have a 15" mbp with i7, though I upgraded the hdd and ram on my own. It is really easy anyway, and it would be a lot costly to have the upgrade that comes from Apple.
