NAMM 2012 Reports and Photos

My friend sent me a picture of this at the show and said "Look it has pictures!"

Great concept. Don Boomer alluded that they had a lot up their sleeve. I am quite surprised at the feature set, things like multiband compression, dynamic eq, etc, with what appears to be an integrated spectrograph inlaid behind, which is great. Their "tweak pad" idea is a very interesting approach on how to keep novice users happy while still allowing advanced users to access the details they want.

Also their StageScape networking protocol is interesting -

"StageScape automatically recognizes which loudspeakers are being used as monitors and routes monitor feeds. Main PA speakers automatically self-configure, pan stereo signals, adjust Smart Speaker modes and perform system-wide optimization. StageScape automatically recognizes subwoofers and sets crossovers, and detects which loudspeakers are being used as monitors and routes monitor feeds."

Pretty significant for the intended market.

Re: new Behringer iPad mixer. I think this is an interesting concept. The problem is it may never make it to market. This time last year Behringer announced the X32 mixer, as far as I can tell that mixer is still vaporware. Today they changed their site to announce the X32 as a new product for 2012, yesterday it was still on there as a new product for 2011. The X32 seems to have gained iPod/iPhone integration.

FYI they supposedly sent working units to NAMM, and I have heard that March is the expected ship date. Their Digital Snake is also announced, and its specs reference an x16 console as a scaled down version of the X32, which presumably will follow the arrival of the X32. http://www.behringer.com/community/the-namm-show-2012-day-one/

In another interesting development, they have announced 3 year warranty...... which I am shocked to see. Never ever would have imagined that one!

Interesting. They say ""StageScape automatically recognizes which loudspeakers are being used as monitors and routes monitor feeds" and "...detects which loudspeakers are being used as monitors and routes monitor feeds". Yet the outputs are still labeled as monitor A,B,C and D. So they could have just routed mixes 1-4 to outputs A-D permanently...
I'm not sure what is automatic about that part of the mixer.

Re: NAMM 2012 Reports and Photos

Fair enough. I am willing to believe that they have had enough time to actually build the mixer. It will be interesting to see what it is like.

A&H GLD pricing released. GLD-80 surface and 24ch snake head (for 32ch total) MAP's for around $11k. Expands up to 48ch total, at $13,400 MAP. Tasty!

Re: NAMM 2012 Reports and Photos

Well, it can certainly only get better than the 4889 :) It took them quite few years to tame that box and there was certainly room for improvement. Maybe this one will put them in closer competition with the current top contenders. I'll be curious to hear it.

Re: NAMM 2012 Reports and Photos

They don't really "fully embrace" the iPad. It doesnt do much for mixing on it, Alto also released a mixer virtually the same to that, that does a lot more to utilize the iPad. Unique design though. Seeing as the x32 has iPhone control, I wonder if they'll also be producing an ipad app.
