Nope. Those 2-3 prong adapters are *not* ground lifts. They are intended to allow you to use grounded equipment with older non-grounded wiring, and it is expected that the adapter be grounded to the metal box. That's what the green tab is for.
But that assumes that the metal box is actually grounded.
And I wonder how many people have actually seen these "widow makers" used properly? I cannot recall a single time I have.
AND LET'S BE HONEST HERE-how many of you carry-or have carried- these and used them to "float" the AC ground to get rid of hum?
I used to carry a number of them-HOWEVER after I took my first Bill Whitlock grounding class-I have never used them since. After understanding the real issues-I have sought out the real problems with hum and taken care of it where it should be taken care of-on the ac signal paths.
I have used several properly, in my family's shore home with two prong outlets and BX wire, which is exactly what these are supposed to do. That's the only place I've ever seen 'em done right, though!
