One of those nights

Re: One of those nights

Agreed. Get them wet from a slobbery vocalist or a rainy outdoor gig and you'll be swapping it out in a big hurry.

I have found that food service film (Saran Wrap) under the ball keeps Audix capsules dry. Remove ball, stretch film over capsule, install ball, and trim excess film. Remove after event, wash the ball and foam so the spit doesn't dry and make the foam crusty.

Or you could just get a nice sounding, tight patterned mic which doesn't need a condom. Try an EV PL80a........

Is the EV PL80a really as feedback resilient as the Audix OM7? I honestly thought the OM7 was in a league of it's own in that regard.

FWIW, the reason the OM7 can fall victim to a spitting vocalist is the fact that the capsule is so close to the singers mouth. This is a key element in making it as feedback resilient as it is; the capsule is really close to the source, hence you get a greater signal/noise ratio. I suspect strongly that other mics in the same category utilize the same construction method.
