Subs, what to do if you lack excursion?

Re: Subs, what to do if you lack excursion?

1)So...., I'm thinking, what if I just open up the rear instead of venting? Going for a somewhat diffuse passive cardio dipole?

2)I ended up concluding that the only way to keep some low response with the volume at hand was to lay the cabinet down to have long enough ports.
Per,

1) An open back is a duct the depth of the cabinet material (18mm, 3/4") but won't contain enough air volume for four speakers, it will be blown out.
2) The plenum used for the speakers can also serve as a 30 inch long port.

1) Yes obviously, it is a semi-W semi-U shape dipole. The size of the rear opening probably needs to be bigger, it depends on the damping material and obstruction needed to take one db off at the rear for maximum cardio and resonance damping.

2) That's the way I've built the plenum, it has the plenum in the centre and the ports on the side, I just need to fix the frame in the cabinet (with speakers mounted, the only way)

The Omega Pro 18A was Eminence' first entry into the bottom of the pro market. It isn't a horrible piece (and it got better with improved flexi cables) but it is completely out of its field in this app.

It has a terrifically low Fs (24 Hz), but is definitely output limited. Great home sub?

Would I rather have 2000 watts distributed among 4 x Omegas in an ideal cabinet vs. 2000 watts across 2 "other brand"? Hard to make that call.
