Where the prototypes go to die.

I finally had a day and cleaned up the garage. I post for your enjoyment the graveyard where prototypes and sample speakers go to die. I redacted all the photos of the OEM speakers and their manufacturer names from boxes. (IE. imagine 5 more feet of bench space on photo one filled with 8in speakers stacked four high.)

Re: Where the prototypes go to die.

Seems a shame to see all that potential just sitting there. McCauley cabinet construction is top notch, I would think even the prototypes of scrapped ideas would be better boxes than most readily available stuff.

Do you guys ever auction that stuff off? Unbadged of course. Or does it just sit there in PA retirement?

There has been some talk about it on and off over the past few years. This is just my personal collection the factory has an even larger quantity going back 20 years. Of course, the biggest problems are that a lot of it looks like products we make, only slightly wrong. Almost none of it has grills. The porting, driver positioning or bracing is normally off or crudely constructed. As far as the speakers, what I spend most of my time tinkering with, they are pretty recognizable as well. 99% of what we make are replaceable basket speakers which means the magnets are easy to cycle around. Basket castings can be recycled in a few minutes if they no longer serves any purpose.

So, when I have to spend a 90deg stacking boxes in the garage and pushing around big heavy cabinets, the thought does cross my mind. (That pile of OEM driver boxes is about 8 feet deep and 4 feet high with speakers from just about every country. A lot of the really bad ones just showed up unannounced. Most of them I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy 8O~8-O~)

There are really just too many downsides to the company to sell any of it. If we lost one sale because some yahoo from eBay is talking about his DIY McCauley rig and how "great" it sounds, it wouldn't be worth it. When I post pictures of my DIY fun projects I don't say they are McCauley projects because they are not. As soon as the cabinets or speakers get loose it's out of my control.
