They are from an era when you had to make a good sounding and solid performing reliable unit or people wouldn't buy it. As Marsellus says, you may have to replace the encoder, but that whole series is great.

And they where quite expensive. DSP was for the pro market and a luxury and not ubiquitous like today.

Of course owning the unit-and getting it setup properly are often 2 very different situations.

With the old analog gear-you were pretty much stuck with only freq and level adjustments (with a few exceptions BSS-Crown-Ashley for example). So not you could screw up.

With a DSP, there is a whole world of stuff you can screw up-oops-I mean adjust- as needed.

This is true. If your into keeping it simple then perhaps the analogue xover might be a good place to start. There's plenty of high end used ones on the market as well. I'd consider a good parametric like a Meyer or Klark on that rig as well for tuning. They're quite cheap these days too. That used to be the way it was done.

If I got a DP200 though, would you guys give me some advice on how to set it up? I wouldn't need delay setting because i'm only using two mid/highs and two subs, both at the front, left/right configuration for the mid/highs and centre stacked for the subs.

Why not just get a Behringer DCX2496? Yeah, it's Behringer, but it's really a great little DSP. 3 ins, 6 outs. It's way more powerful then the competing dbx product, and they seem pretty reliable so far. Plus they're dirt cheap.

Thanks Evan for your reply, but Behringer, hmm, i've used Behringer gear before and it's always been a bit iffy, and noisy. I've always lived by the rule that your system is only as good as the weakest piece of equipment in thew signal chain. I should be able to afford the XTA DP200, I mean I know how to use parametric equalisation and kinda of do with limiters but i'm not 100% sure how to properly set limiters. If I got one later one would you guys do me a massive favour and help me set up the limiters please? I wanna learn how to use a DSP properly.

Hi Richard,
I'd be happy to assist in some way. I've used a lot of XTA kit over the years, and I think that you will get good results from the DP200. The only drawback with the older models is that they are not supported by the more recent versions of Audiocore. But they still have good converters, good filters, good limiters. I'm sure you'll get a better result than any of the analogue models you've mentioned, and better is always better.
