Great news! We're confirmed to be back at the Wachusett Village Inn in Westminster, MA.

I'll be taking point in pulling together a 2-day expo on May 16 and 17, followed by a special 2-day SMAART class with Karen and Jamie Anderson.

If you've been to our gathering before, I'm sure you'll be back. If you've not joined us yet, this is the time to make the trek.

The free expo event offers an incredible opportunity to network with learn from industry leaders and other providers and technicians from all over the world.

The Inn offers great food and comfortable rooms at fantastic rates. I'll have more soon on the rooms rates.

I'm sure Karen or Jamie from Rational Acoustics will pipe in shortly with details on their SMAART offering for May 18 and 19.

I'd love to get feedback on what / who you'd like to see exhibiting at this year's expo. Please also reply to the thread if you'll be attending or if you have any questions.

Not really. Just mention the Expo. You'll get $49/night. The night of the 19th, there are only about 6 rooms available, but not at the discounted rate. If you need to stay on-site the final night, book it now, as there is another event coming in to follow us.

Karen here from Rational Acoustics. Sorry to be late to the party, but we have finally gotten the details of the LAB/SFN Expo Smaart Training Class together.

2-Day Smaart Fundamentals & Applications Training Class
May 18-19, 2011
9AM - 5PM each day
Wachusett Village Inn
9 Village Inn Road
Westminster, MA 01473

This class will take place in the same venue/room as the Expo. The price for the class is $450. As a special, we are offering a $50 discount on the class to anyone who attends both the Expo and the Training Class together. All you have to do is attend one (or both) of the days of the Expo on May 15-16 in order to qualify. Since the Expo does not have a formal registration system, we are going to do this on the honor system. But Jamie and I will both be at the Expo so if you don't attend, but you take the discount... we'll know! :)~:)~:smile: Class price includes all class materials and continental breakfast & lunch each day.

You can register for this class online at http://www.rationalacoustics.com/pages/Class-reg-form. If you are registering as a Lab Expo attendee and taking the discount, please choose the option that says "Westminster, MA - May 18-19: Fundamentals and Applications (LAB Expo Attendee)" under the class drop down list. Otherwise, just register for the regular Westminster class option. Or, you can register directly with Barb Mattson here in our offices via phone at 860-928-7828. A $50 deposit is required to hold your spot in the class, and the balance of the class fee is due one week prior to the class start date.

Please note that last I heard, the Wachusset Village Inn does not have any rooms available on May 19th so if you planning to stay at the Wachusset Village Inn during the Expo and/or Class, you may need to switch hotels on the 19th (unless of course you are heading home right after class).

Jamie will be teaching the class, using Smaart v.7 as the platform. If you do not own Smaart v.7 you can download a demo version of the program HERE. But be aware that this is a self-expiring 30 day demo so if you intend to use it for the class, do not download it until April 20th (at the earliest) or else it will expire before the end of class and there is nothin' we can do to extend it.

You can also combo this class with discounts on the Smaart Software itself. If you are interested, please be sure to ask Barb when registering.

As every year, the Tyra Penn band will be playing the evening of the 16th, great players with good music. There is a bar in the room, and good local beer on tap. This is a great chance to play with mixing consoles, talk shop, and network. I promise not to start day 2 until 10:00 a.m. so you can get breakfast and some fluids into your body.

Please, sign up for the Smaart class! There is a $50 discount for attending the expo, the training is second to none, and they took a risk and put their names down for us early. I'm going to be there, it would be great to see familiar faces all four days. The new stuff that Smaart 7 can do is fantastic, and Jamie will show you the advantages of multi-mic measurement.

Every part of me wants to get on this. It'd be about a 12 hour drive for me, coming out of Virginia. I'm loving the list of people already speaking, can't wait to see who else will be there.

Let me ask you seasoned pros this: is paying $450 for training on a program that I don't own yet, worth it? The company I work for has a few copies of it, but only the boss is really allowed to touch the program. I know how to set it up and get it going, but the in-depth stuff is where the magic happens. I do plan on buying it in the future, but between getting married, starting life and getting my feet on the ground, I can't justify too many gear purchases.

Right now there are only a handful of single king rooms available, and a couple of cottages available. If you're planning on attending, and haven't already, I'd book a room now.

The Smaart training will give you a fantastic foundation on which to build an understanding of measurement and loudspeaker processing in general, regardless of platform. Besides, it's only $400 if you attend the expo as well! The added value is being able to learn more about measurement and loudspeaker optimization in general for the low cost of buying certain attendees a few beers. Obviously we like to talk about this stuff.

Just a few huh? :p

I'm going to start counting my pennies now. $400 for the training, $50 x3 for hotel rooms, a whole bunch of ramen noodles(maybe $2 worth..), money for beers to get people to talk(maybe $50??).. and about $100 in gas for the trip.

That's $702 dollars.

Jim,

I'll post a day by day schedule once I have everyone presenting nailed down. Count on 10-tired the first day, 10-6 or so day two. This will be the first time we've had an event after the event, so to speak, so there won't be the traditional strike and GTFO. Maybe I can find something fun to do the evening of Day 2.

P.S. Jim, great to see you here. Thanks for signing up. It would be awesome to buy you a beer at the expo.
