Uli Behringer of The Music Group Q&A

Re: Uli Behringer of The Music Group Q&A

The price went up after it was announced that the 32 x32 FireWire/USB card would be included. Have you priced an interface like this for some other products lately? Seems entirely reasonable to me.

Re: Uli Behringer of The Music Group Q&A

Sorry, can´t believe that: The FireWire/USB card was announced to be included months ago and the price went up 1st August... Do you believe that all these stores slept until 1st of August?

Who knows. but I do know that they probably watch each other's websites VERY closely. and if one decided to raise their price the others would follow suit.
especially when they know that everyone has the same stock level (0)

Re: Uli Behringer of The Music Group Q&A

I'm shocked... street price responding to supply and demand pressures... :)

Maybe those economists know something after all?

JR

PS: I wouldn't be surprised if all the pre shipment publicity here has contributed something to the demand.

My dealer informed me of the price increase the day after the card announcement....months ago. I have seen the higher price listed on many websites and in the reviews. Some dealers may have waited hoping to get more preorders.

my pre-ordered price went up about 20% last night -unfortunately as collecting did not ask for payment when I ordered but they did quote back the price on confirming the order (verbally). I will try and hold them to the original price but I suspect this was based on earlier info on the price from behringer.
(but still slightly cheaper than other uk and european vendors!)

Just looking at UK websites (because I'm in the UK):

  • gak.co.uk has the X32 priced at £2,099.00
  • dv247.com has the X32 priced at £2,110.56
  • bluearan.co.uk has the X32 priced at £2,499.00
  • soundslive.co.uk has the X32 priced at £2,099.00
  • soundlightuk.com has the X32 priced at £1,810.71
  • studiospares.com has the X32 priced at £2,099.00

If you discount soundlightuk.com because their website doesn't look like a top end audio retailer website AND they have none in stock and none on order, the only question to ask here is, what on Earth are bluearan.co.uk up to? They say they will price match, but why would anyone do that when they can simply buy from another website like dv247.com?!?!

It seems to me that all the retail websites put the X32 up with their best guess on price. They all listed as out of stock and when the pre-orders came in, they all updated to a new (proper) price. So I'm wondering what happened to all those people who pre-ordered around the £1,800.00 mark. Did their suppliers come back to them and ask for more money? Is advertising at one price and selling at a higher price not breaking the law in the UK?

Re: Uli Behringer of The Music Group Q&A

Dear Uli,

I will soon receive one of the first X32 mixers available for consumers here in the USA. I am looking forward to being able to use this great new mixer but am concerned that at this point, I won't be able to use all of its features. I am sure I speak for many buyers who will soon be receiving their X32s. Could you please let us know when the supporting products and software will be available in the USA? I am speaking specifically of the S16 Stage Box, and the wireless iPad and PC software to control the mixer wirelessly. I am also concerned that, based on what I have seen so far, the iPad and PC wireless software may not offer full wireless control of the mixer.

I have been a user and supporter of many Behringer products over the years, and trust that the X32 and its companion products will be your best yet. Could you please address these issues, specifically the availability of the S16 and wireless software, and could you let us know if the wireless software will offer full control of the X32?

Thank you again for taking the time to respond, and for all the prior information you have shared with us.

Sincerely,

Rob Dellwood

Dear uli

You may not want to or be able to answer this but here goes.

I sure would be interested in a X32RH ( to steal some Yamaha terms ). Reduce the surface cost by removing most of the local I/O. I would use it like an A&H GLD model with remote stage boxes.

Perhaps after the current demand for the X32 and the stage boxes?

Re: Uli Behringer of The Music Group Q&A

I am still confused about the three year warranty. There is a limited one year warranty that is non-transferable and that "If you do not retain your purchase receipt then this Limited Warranty will be void. In the unlikely event that you require to exercise this Limited Warranty, we will need you to provide a copy of this purchase receipt. Without this we will unfortunately not be able to process your request for warranty repair."

Apparently you may "qualify" for an extension of "up to" three years if the product is registered online with MUSIC Group within 90 days of purchase. However, the "Warranty Limitations and Exclusions" state that the coverage of the power supply and accessories is limited to 90 days and the coverage of digital displays, LCDs, meters, sensors, switches, potentiometers and "Any mechanical component that may be affected by externally applied force" is limited to one year. The warranty language also limits any coverage to the hardware and excludes software, which would seem to also apply to firmware.

So is the warranty extension to three years or is it "up to" three years and could be less then that? How does one know if their warranty has been extended? And since the faders, meters, pots, switches, display, connection points, etc. being limited to one year of coverage, the power supply to 90 days and the firmware and software having no warranty seem very relevant for a product like the X32, does the warranty extension affect the Warranty Limitations and Exclusions or do those still apply as stated?

Brad,

As the VP, Care for MUSIC Group, I wanted to jump in and provide some clarity on the warranty and how it specifically relates to the X32.

All BEHRINGER products, including the X32, are automatically covered by a one year warranty. If the product is registered at www.music-group.com/support within 90-days of purchase, the warranty will be extended to three years. After the product is registered, you will receive an email notification for your records showing that the product has been registered.

I do want to confirm a couple of points you raised in your post regarding the limitations of the warranty. First off, internal power supplies are covered under the full warranty. Only external PSUs or wall worts are the power sources that are covered for 90 days. You also mentioned your concern surrounding software and firmware not being covered. Firmware will always be supported for active products. If there are any issues found, or if additional functionality is added through firmware, will be made available to all X32 users and fully supported. The last point that I wanted to clarify is the statement surrounding connection points. If you are referring to the connection points inside the X32 such as solder or cable connections, these are covered under the terms of the warranty.

I hope that this will clear the confusion on the warranty. If you have any other questions regarding the terms and conditions of the warranty, please feel free to contact us at [email protected].

Re: Uli Behringer of The Music Group Q&A

Thanks Pat! So essentially the warranty is extended to three years if you register the product online within 90 days of purchase, but the one year exclusion limitation would still apply for the LCD screen, faders, pots, switches, etc. And by connection points I meant the physical I/O, since any physical connections are affected by externally applied force they would also seem to be limited to one year of warranty coverage. It almost seems that the simple view is that anything that requires opening up the console to access it is warrantied for three years (assuming you didn't actually open up the console) but anything you can touch without opening up the console would likely be limited to one year of coverage.

My name is John Steven and I am a Customer Support Manager for Behringer, responsible for looking after our direct sale partners and distributors in several regions including the UK. Let me please try and clear up some of the questions about price of the X32.

Many of the prices that were advertised online after we first showed the X32 under glass at NAMM 2011 were based on our "target" price of around $2,500. However we did not actually offer any confirmed pricing to our customers until Pro Light & Sound 2012. At PLS many of our customers thought that we should ship X32 with the Firewire card included. We decided that this was a good idea and we confirmed final pricing to them shortly afterwards. Behringer is not responsible by law for end user pricing in Europe, this is solely down to the discretion of the retailer. As Jason Lavoie quite rightly points out, it would not be unusual in this industry, as in others, for competitive major retailers to track each other prices. But we are not in control of this. Also, when retailers decide to take deposits on products without actually knowing when they will receive it, this is also not something that we can be held responsible for.

Behringer has a unique business model, a model which allows us to deliver on Uli's philosophy; the best possible product and the most affordable price. That is our benchmark as a company! All of the customers that buy directly from Behringer know how our process and order system works and should plan accordingly.

The first X32 shipments will arrive in the UK in approximately five to six weeks, perhaps slightly less. What information a retailer chooses to share with its customers is again not under our control, but as a company we are making ourselves accessible to answer your questions and we greatly appreciate your feedback. I have worked in this industry for 25 years in Sales, Marketing & PR for many of the biggest brands, no other company is as committed to driving down the costs and pushing up the quality and reliability of its products.

Re: Uli Behringer of The Music Group Q&A

Hi John,
I wanna thank you for your additional information. Next I want to encourage you to go on the way of "transparency for the customer". Only this will make you a reliable partner for end users.
My conclusion is: Sometimes it pays to take a risks. I didn't take. Bad luck...

No. My understanding is that the price shown on the adverts/web site is legally an "invitation to treat" it is not an "offer to sell", so it is not legally binding. The same applies to prices on supermarket shelves.

When you contact the supplier to place your order, you are making an "offer to buy". If they accept your offer (order) at that price, only then does a contract exist and the price become binding - and in fact if you don't pay a deposit (give consideration) then the contract may be void-able.

If you DO pay a deposit - as I did - then the contract is made and enforceable. If they then fail to honour that contract, you can obtain the goods elsewhere and claim the difference in cost back from them (via the Small Claims Court if necessary).

Re: Uli Behringer of The Music Group Q&A

John,

Thanks. For the avoidance of doubt:

The "them" I refer to above in relation to reclaiming the difference in cost is not Behringer, it is the retailer, with whom the contract exists. Also the distance selling regulation in the UK would come into play.

I appreciate your feedback both here and directly to me via e-mail.

Hi Dave,

I don't want to start an argument here, but I run a business and as a business owner, I get various junk through my door. One such item of junk came through my door a year or so ago, from the UK government. It was a leaflet (okay, a small booklet) that I actually found mildly interesting to read because I was amazed how strict the law is on price and what an advertised price actually means to me, the business.

I'm not a lawyer so I cannot quote specifics or indeed claim to know what I'm talking about. But the general jist I got from the leaflet was that a business is not allowed to advertise at one price to bring consumers in, then charge another (higher) price on the product. Neither are they allowed to advertise a product they do not sell, to bring paying customers in, only to offer them an alternative that they do sell. Both of these are false advertising and strictly against the law.

I did a quick Google search for this information and the first link I found is here:

Retail pricing and the law in the UK | UK Welcomes | Business Link

The key text on this page is:

"Trading legislation covers various aspects of selling - including pricing. You must clearly inform customers of your prices, and this information must be true at all times."

I interpret this as follows:

"If you advertise a product worth £100,000.00 to me at £100.00, you have to sell it to me for £100.00 or I can report you for breaking the law."

Am I interpreting it correctly? Who knows? All I'm saying is I THINK that anyone who bought and paid for an X32 console from a UK online or offline retailer advertised around £1,800.00 will be in a contract with the retailer and the retailer has to deliver.

So the question is, did anyone here buy AND pay for at this price? Are you now being asked to pay a different amount?

Kind regards, Andrew
