X32 Discussion

Re: Send on faders on custom keys

Hey all,

I have yet another question. This one I think should be easy, but for some reason I just can't seem to figure it out!

If I have my monitor mix on Mixbus 1, how can I put the main mix through the mixbus 1 in addition to the mains? Basically I want to send whatever is coming out of the mains to the monitor as well. Some people I have who are using in ears like to hear a full mix lightly in the background.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. Like I said, it seems like it should be relatively easy, but I just can't seem to figure it out!

Thanks in advance all!

-Karl

re: X32 Discussion

In the SOS review they mentioned "base sample rates only" and "no external word clock in" as its top two deficiencies? Wow. That certainly says something about the X32 (or something about SOS.......). I would put money on that you could use the AES/EBU output to clock other machines if necessary.

re: X32 Discussion

Rats, I didn't realize this was the case. I was hoping that there would be MIDI emulation built into the recording card that would handle this. Maybe in future..... I am also hopeful that the MIDI input could eventually be passed to the DAW to allow connection of things like e-drums and keyboards, as sync could be an issue if mixing the X32 with other midi interface devices...

Christian or anyone, do you know if this is planned?

Never Mind, it appears that it is already working doing MIDI over Firewire and USB for console control. The video Sam posted and commented on had me thinking otherwise.

Does anyone know if it is possible to connect Midi Keyboards or drum modules to the Midi Ins of the X32 and for those to be transferred to a DAW?

P.S. You guys who have your hands on the X32 already are making me jealous!

And you should be! Seriously it's a fantastic board, and while it's not quite the Digico I'm used to, it does maybe 1/4 of what the Digi does, at 1/20th of the cost! Really quite amazing. And to my ears it sounds fantastic as well. Don't listen to all the preamp nitpicking, they sound nice and clean.

I don't know why you would want to route the MIDI modules thru' the X32 for that purpose unless you don't have a MIDI interface. I would like to run MIDI to and from FOH via S16 on stage if that's possible, but getting it into the DAW is not generally a problem.
Received my X32 today, but need to clear some clutter before I can set it up with Midimonitor and Wireshark to figure out what is possible and not in the current configuration. I might even hook up a couple of studiomonitors as well to get some sound

Re: Send on faders on custom keys

Output your ears mix from a matrix instead. Select the buses you want (including the L/R buss) then page over to the "sends" page and assign to the matrix in question.

Thanks for the reply Joshua, but what I was looking for was a way to create a shortcut to the send on faders function (for a specific mixbus) on one of the user assignable keys. I could not find a way to do it.

Christian, do you think this will be available on a future firmware upgrade?

re: X32 Discussion

Got my X32 yesterday. Great console!
Sturdy built, feels solid, no noisy motorized faders like the fi. Yamaha 02R, FX OK, but I miss a analog delay emulation with modulation capabilities. I'll find a way to emulate that. Plenty of editing possibillities in this area.

Concerning the preamp discussion; they're great!

XRemote control works a treat, but.......

Had to send it back today .
Quality control didn't check the assignable button no 11. It didn't make a physical contact, though the LED under the button did what it had to do!

Contacted my supplier, they'll send me another one. Tomorrow I'll be the happy owner of a, hopefully, flawlessly working console.

Sorry to hear that. I hope, you will get a new one soon.

BTW: Now that you got your desk, will you and your mate although coming over here next Tuesday?

These are the kind of things I'm worried about. Yes, things happen, and stuff slips through, but is the manufacturing up to the rigors of road use? That's been one of the issues seen with Behringer stuff, is that it's not of the highest quality. Warranty doesn't help much when you've got a couple thousand fans in the seats and the board dies.

And yes, other products do have problems, so I can't single out Behringer for one report of a bad board out of the box, but it's something to keep an eye on. I'm 99% sure I'm going to be getting a few of these boards, and at the price, I can even bring spares along compared to higher end units, but if the failure rate hits an annoying level, I'll be looking elsewhere.

What is it you are actually trying to do and what is it you want the assignable button to do? Do you want the assignable button to turn the main mix send to monitors on and off, or do you want the button to take you to a mode where you can set the sends?

I think he wants the mixbusses already in "sends on fader" mode on the assign buttons, which is not a stupid idea. Say the lead singers monitorbus is on assign button 5. If the singer wants a change, you hit just button 5 and you are already in "sends on fader" mode and in the right bus. So you don't have to focus on choosing the right mixbus, selecting it and make the changes. You would economize one touch of a button. You can do that on a LS9 too if I remember correct. Like I said, I have to do timber work on my roof and I don't have the X32 here...so I can't comment, if it's doable or not. Probably not.
.
@Brian: I understand your worries, but according to the Behringer Facebook site, they have already sold 20.000 X32 by now! As far as I know, very little complains about malfunction or crashes so far. Time will tell:)

Re: Send on faders on custom keys

Hello

Like said earlier, x32 arrived last wednesday - went to gig on thu, fri & sat and did 14 bands with it.

Everything went smooth and operation was a breeze - bands and audience liked my job and I had a good time.

Only issue was, that I was not able to save COMPLETE presets wit gain, dynamics and eq - have to spend some time with that here at home...

Personal monitors P16M arrived yesterday - they do exactly, what one would expect - CD sounds the same on headphones from the desk and P16M.
The encoders are not so sturdy as on X32, but good enough, especially considering the pricetag.

Hooked the X32 to my MacBook with WIFI to test recording - after wrestling with Cubase long enough, that works, too.
( my Cubase-experience is VERY limited, so it took quite some time to get everything set up - now I have it as template...)

Only problem, that remains is how to set up remote control via iPad. I still haven´t got any propellerhead to pop over and help me....

One thing is certain, though - when they do come out with X16 and it is physically small enough, I will definitely get one of those, too...

Re: Send on faders on custom keys

Congratulation Timo - good news!

As a longtime Cubase User I can understand your worries, imho Cubase is not very intuitive at first.

Only issue was, that I was not able to save COMPLETE presets wit gain, dynamics and eq - have to spend some time with that here at home...

I run into the same thing at first, turned out that I set the micpre gain to recall save. Maybe check the preferences in the setup menue.

OK, I get it. Karl was asking something in the same "subtopic" which was answered by Joshua, and I didn't realize that there were two people asking different questions. I don't think Ashirvad realized that Joshua's answer was for Karl either. I'll look at it later, there should definitely be a way to do it.
