X32 Discussion

re: X32 Discussion

@Jens: Looks great - nice and clean workspace!
Reminds me, to clean up my messy system.
By now I'm preparing a case for two S-16 and I want to put a P-16D and a drawer for the P-16M in it.

@All: How do you store/rack your P-16M? I'm not realy sure about the 19U drawer...

Christian

This is why it would be nice if they provided some rack mount ears for the P16D...or change the chassis to a rack mount one like the P16i.

re: X32 Discussion

Wanted to post an audio file and a quick story - a few weeks ago, I did my first live recording with my new X32. Set up was quick and painless, even though we put the recording idea together at the last minute. I patched into the monitor split at the venue (as they no longer had their monitor desk) backstage, and after a quick soundcheck to set head-amp levels, I set about configuring my Studio One V2 template to take the channels in. Since I had inputs on both "ends" of the channels (had most starting at "1", but had a couple recording-only connections that I ran from 32-down), when all was routed, said and done, I took the remaining tracks out of record-arm in S1V2, and "hid" them in the UI. MC is about to start the show, so I hit record - all is well. First band starts - all is well. Levels look good, and needed very minor tweaking to get them dialed in just right. I'm watching the waveforms getting built and populated in S1V2, and watching my meters page on the X32 - all is well. I decided to try something that I've been thinking about doing since the X32 is so flexible. I know I'm sending dry, raw tracks from the pres to the computer, so I decided to mix the show "live to 2-track" in headphones, even though I've not done "house sound" in quite some time - my mix wasn't going to FOH, but I "pretended" it was. Started configuring filters, EQ, dynamics, FX, etc - all is well. After the gig, I'm just elated - everything went off without a hitch, so I strike and head home with my gear and immediately head to the studio to quickly audition the tracks before bed time (it's about 1:30AM by now). I knew we had some 'buzzing' issues periodically with the bass channel, so I immediately went to that track, and found my first problem - no bass. It was a guitar. Hmmmm - I start searching thru the multitracks to find the bass - no bass - anywhere. Now, I'm in kind of a panic, and start looking around at symptoms. It turns out, when I "hid" the tracks earlier that night, it appeared to have changed my digital routing in the DAW, so I had multiple copies of the same input on a few channels, and others were just gone. I was crushed - here I was, recording some soul legends (just for fun, no "charge") and I came up with an incomplete set of tracks at the end of the night. So, back to my 2-buss mix - this was my saving grace. The mix was "good enough" to get a nice feel for the show's energy, with a "decent" balance of all the instruments - not perfect, but "decent". Lessons learned - go back to my "old standby" Reaper to track - simple, lightweight and easy-to-configure, and then just copy the WAVs into my S1V2 project when I'm ready to mix (I *love* S1 for mixing!). Here's a link to one of the tunes that I mixed "live to 2-track" that night - I have a long way to go to get my 2-buss mix to "Christian" levels, but it's encouraging to know that it can be done (and then some....).

@Christian.......don't know what happened there........seems like they were forced out......

p.s. by the way my son's name is Cristian........love all of the information that you post on the X32....really informative.....

re: X32 Discussion

Really appreciate being able to network with other people here who are using or expecting their X32. I've got a few feature comments/requests...

So we're using one X32 for FOH in a Church Auditorium which has a distributed speaker system. My plan was to use the 6 matrices for Main L, Main R, Side Fills, Balcony Sides, Balcony Platform, and Subwoofers.

The reason for wanting to use the matrices is to allow for different EQ settings for the different boxes. Our previous setup used a BSS Audio Minidrive (but it's locked down and the password has been lost) so I was hoping to use the X32 to do speaker management instead.

Now the issue that I have faced is that the Main LR master channel cannot send the individual (L or R) component to the matrix - only a mono mixdown - which kind of defeats the purpose of LR if you can't keep it in stereo when using matrices for speaker eq. Am I being silly?

For the time being I have additionally sent every channel to the mono bus and use the mono bus to feed the matrices so that I can set an EQ on the LR channels for sending to our main stereo pair which works - however it's quite annoying that the mono channel fader gets muted at desk startup considering it's linked to the LR channel anyway. That means the volunteer needs to remember to bring up the mono channel (which isn't obvious unless you go through the layers) whenever they turn the desk on otherwise only the main L & R speakers will be active.

Hope that made sense? Does anybody have a better suggestion?

--------------

Now the skill level of our team of volunteers varies, it would be real nice to lock down the routing settings and the matrices so that they can't go in and change those settings by accident but it seems that it's only possible to lock the entire console - which isn't ideal given what we're trying to achieve!

-------------

Other than that main issue, very impressed with the desk considering the cost.

re: X32 Discussion

I would like to post a thanks to Uli ( who responded to a PM last week-end incredibly quickly) and Simon and Roger (and Pauline) at the UK Care Centre who sorted out a problem I had - in a freindly and professional manner.

re: X32 Discussion

Still no eq, which I'm afraid mstill renders it somewhat useless for the setup phase. The great thing with a remote like this is to be able to go out in the room or up on stage and tune the PA and monitors, so hopefully that part will be on the next update. .......please........
The scribble strip bit is really handy when at the console, much easier than using the console
I would really like to have scenes and USB-stick playback/record available as well. .....please....please.....

Thank you development team and keep up the good work

Edit; oh yeah, and it crashes when resumed after the screen has gone blank, but I'm just downloading the latest firmware update for the iPad, so I'll try when that one is installed
New update, still crashing with iOS 6.0 installed.

Gutted,

My X32 has just arrived from our friends in Germany and the 16th input fader (channel 16/32/FX4R etc) motor doesnt work, makes a noise but the fader doesn't move.

Oh well, guess I need to get onto the phone to them in the morning :-(

 Man, I would also be really dissapointed.. Hope you get this fixed ASAP!

But did you get a chance to check out the amazing reverb fx quality? :)~:)~ Man, that plate reverb is fantastic.

You need to link two matrix channels to keep the Main LR in stereo

Bring the fader to whatever level you want, and save the layout to a Scene.

Train the vounteer(s) to always load the Scene after turning the board on. (I would do this anyway. They'll always be starting with a consistent configuration, regardless of what someone else might have accidently modified.)

re: X32 Discussion

Just received mine today. I immediately noticed there is a vertical streak on the right side of the panel. It stays there no matter which buttons or view it's on. I don't know if it's noise or a defective LCD screen. I also have channel 16 noise issue but 32 is okay. I updated to the latest firmware and problem stayed the same as expected. x32streak.jpg

Also, did anyone noticed, on the product registration page, they asked for date of purchase...well, I purchased this item a few months ago and just received it today...does that mean we automatically lose those months from the 3 year service agreement or should I put the date I received them?

Don't know about where you are, but in the UK the purchase contract would not be completed until delivery.
