X32 Discussion

Re: X32 Discussion

I've managed to damage a 1/4" input inside the X32 (Aux 6 input) Must have stood on the cable somehow and pulled the cord out but broke the actual 1/4" jack. I still can't believe this.

The very end tip of the jack has remained inside the Aux 6 input and I can't see how to remove it.

Anybody had such an experience?

Looks like I would have to take the X32 apart to get at the remaining tip part which is not what I plan to attempt. That I would leave to a Behringer approved repair place (and it would not be under warranty for such a repair of course).

Is there some way of getting this out without such a tear apart?

I can see inside the Aux 6 port and it does not look easy to get at that tip.

Not sure if you were able to fix it yet, but I have had a tip of a 1/4" jack get stuck in a combo connector on an old Crown CE 1000. I ended up taking a long drywall screw and hand screwing it into the tip. Once it grips the broken tip you can easily pull it out.

Re: Pre amps

I've been working with the X32 for two weeks now. I apply my golden rule on mixing with a digital desk (not gaining to loud). I'm working with some recordings going over firewire for the first time.

But there is distortion or overdrive everywhere. It makes things harsh A little distortion is fine with me. I do that willfully in studio mixes. But i like recordings to be clean.

Is this normal? I can send an example after exporting is done.

I have done several 32 channel recordings with the console and never had any distortion. I would guess you have a driver or hardware issue (can't keep up?) on the workstation side of things.

Re: Pre amps

-6dB is very hot.
That should be about +12dBu, so +8dB on most analog sound consoles...

I ran it mostly at maximum -18dBFS

If you have to cranck it up to that level to fully output your system, you should consider to alter (rise) your gain structure behind the desk.

I concur.
If you're setting each channels gain to the full capacity of the pre-amp, you'll overload the main bus, but also leave yourself open to overloads when the level reaches the top of the scale.
Each channels gain should be set so that the level in the solo meter uses all the green area and just tickles the red.
That may look like you're wasting capacity or level, but digital metering is different to analog.
Once you reach the top of the scale, there is no more gain to be had. You're in a world of distortion.
Leave yourself some room to work with; headroom if you like.

I've used my desk with lots of different PA systems from Peavey to D&B and haven't had any volume or distortion issues.
Either you don't have enough rig for the gig, or there is a device between the desk and the PA system that is set incorrectly (Driverack?).
Does something in the chain have a +4/-10 button?

Karl.

Re: Pre amps

G'day Misja,

Have you tried opening the firewire control panel and adjusting the settings a little?.. I have to do that EVERY time, otherwise I get horrible distortions everywhere.

Pauly

I assure that is not the case. I see -6Db as the highest peak i ever want on a digital desk. Basically only ever vocals will touch that and even then that's seldom. Also it's fine when using live. The console does it job perfect. It's the recordings that don't sound as i expect. The chain to the PA system is digital (AES/EBU) so i don't bother with impedance :)

Re: Pre amps

We have a slight problem recording also. We are recording directly to a "stick" The "live" mix sounds great but the recording clips, especially on the kick and bass. I'm sure we'll figure it out eventually, but if anybody has any ideas, I'm open...

power rating

evening all.
just a quickie, whats the power rating on the X32? just buying a UPS to go with the desk when it arrives, need to sort the smallest I need (I go round different venues with my kit, so need to keep the weight down if I can)

Cheers

Re: Pre amps

how is the trim going to the stick? - lower that, then boost it after on a PC program...

That's one thing we need to figure out... how to get good live sound @ around 96db and not have the recording clip.. I'm sure there is a way to attenuate the mix to the stick, but this ol redneck hasn't found it yet... and I really haven't had enough time playing with it to see.. I've usually got my hands full with the actual mix on Sunday, and can't really tell what it sounds like until after the fact. I have been reserved to just record the pastor speaking for now... which comes out fine.. If I can remember to turn it on...lol

Re: Pre amps

One page over in the recording section...

Meaning, "Recording VIEW, CONFIG button, Recording trim LEFT and then RIGHT", yes?

At first, I thought you meant one page over in Junior Varsity, and thus found the "X32 Studio Users" thread, and learned something new. But not about how to reduce the gain to the USB stick recording.

Re: X32 Discussion

Hi Aaron,

We plan adding a couple of MIDI controls to the implementation, specifically for faders and mutes. This might become available with one of the next firmware updates, however - I cannot give any details, yet.

When you plan setting up a tactile interface, I would recommend basing it around the X32's OSC protocol via Ethernet. This is much more powerful, providing access to all sorts of parameters in the console, it is readily available and it does not depend on MIDI.

Best,
Jan

Yes! More powerful! Now where's my Arduino...

Webinars on youtube

Does all the webinars show up in the behringers youtube channel?

I have been refreshing the channel for the waves webinar with no luck...

Please put all of them on youtube!!!

OSC (App for routing, reordering channls, printing labels for P16M, etc)

Hi guys,

does anyone know what X32 answers to the "/status" request from XControl?
Background: I am writing a little (Windows-) App for easier routing (drag&drop of sources to destinations), reordering channels and printing labels for the personal monitors P16M (and the S16 and X32)
By now, the program is able to read and store scene-files from and to disk, but it would be much more charming if it could communicate to the x-familiy directly.
As I am not near the console when developing it would be easier for me to use XControl for testing. I already managed to let XControl "see" my program by correctly answering the "/info" request. But to connect them I would need to know what XControl expects as answer to his "/status" request.

Anyone, maybe?
