A tweet from the band says that they are all ok and weren't on the stage. I saw the footage on the local news website. Absolutely horrifying. Hearing the screams was too much for me.

The police should be ashamed of themselves. They should have been the first ones to start looking for injured and clearing out all the extra people so they could work and bring emergency crews in. But no, they just stand around like it was a house of cards that fell off the table.

I generally refrain from commenting on events I was not present for, but I know the company that has the gig. They are absolutely not a hack shop, and have some of the best guys in the state on staff. Something funky had to have been going on. Time will tell. Still waiting to hear from some people I know that were present as crowd, and crew...

From every video I've seen... I saw no evidence of ballast on the truss legs, or, any guy wires.
The roof fell downstage left.
It appears as if the Stage left piece of roof canvas tears loose (or isn't properly secured) at the upstage center and starts to tear from the roof towards the downstage, stage left, side....causing a sail. (Downwind). (the stage right piece of canvas seems to stay intact)
There is a circular video screen or logo, hanging from the upstage center piece of truss. It's flat side turns toward the wind. It also appears as if there is additional video screens on both sides (left & right) of the circular piece. I'm guessing that these three pieces may have acted as sails.
Where was the roof crew chief? Why wasn't this show called, they had noted previous weather reports?
This is an unfortunate mess.

Was a spectator at a show recently, a buddy was running the stage that day. Whenever I'm outside I tend to keep tabs on the weather, especially a events. I let him know the weather was headed in and the crew was able to get ready for the storm with plenty of time to spare. Its hard to see but the structure is properly secured with guy wires and all. The storm had gusts to about 60mph with sustained 40mph and I'd bet that even with they guys something would have gone wrong with the roof up, maybe not a full collapse but a problem none the less.

You cannot quickly and safely lower a guyed roof under these conditions. Lowering the roof slacks the guys, taking away horizontal strength from the structure.

I believe Chris meant.. as I do in another post...that, it's pressing your luck to wait to lower a roof AFTER the high winds have started to blow.
It should have been lowered previously. There was already a speech given to the crowd regarding possible evacuation of the area. They had called off the evacuation...according to the Press.
This incident of injuries could have been prevented.

6 of my friends from IATSE Local 30 are at Methodist Hospital, PLEASE PRAY! 2 of my friends are in "very critical" condition. There were 4 Truss Spot operators in the roof when it came down. I was doing an acoustic gig no where near the roof.

Is there no provision for either a large portion of the back or side cloths or an entire panel to be quickly lowered to cut the sail area down. At least 2 of the portable stage makers over here have a system where either the back panel can be dropped almost immediatley or a large vent panel opened which allows the stage's wind speed limit to go up substantialy. Ok the show would stop but at least under some degree of control. I know you have extreme weather changes over there that we don't get here but 2 major collapses in a few weeks!!? G
