New Midas M32 Console

re: New Midas M32 Console

I would be surprised if they didn't figure out cheaper ways to deliver high performance from the whole X32 exercise. Not to mention the forward march of technology.

A X-32 on steroids seems a more likely candidate... Support for higher sampling rates and the like seems like it was always reserved to differentiate the brands. Not much reason to use more expensive moving faders after developing their own in house, while smart to wait until any bugs are worked out.

Of course this is just one man's guess... or what I would do...

I assume that could be a fairly straightforward exercise in many ways. They probably have to double up the chip-count as I don't think there are double-capacity variants of the chips used in the X32. A Midas-coloured 96KHz X32 would be a fairly major deviation from their current designs though, as the platform shift would probably necessitate either a complete Midas firmware/software redesign or the adoption of the X32 firmware/software platform. No matter how pleased we are with the X32 look and feel (we are very pleased), I somehow doubt that "looks and feels like a Behringer" will be a great selling point for a Midas console. Not that they wouldn't sell a bunch of them if they used the old blue and purple colour scheme and maybe named it V32 hinting towards a kinship to the Venice consoles rather than the Pro series.

Given the fact that the pro series and xl8 all run on a pretty similar x86 based Linux is and the x32 runs on an ARM processor there would have to be quite a significant change if scenes are to be interchange able.
That said they could use Linux on a faster ARM chip and use the same layout or go for something completely different with either a software convertor or abandoning the current osc format for the scene files (if they used similar software to the x32) .

I think that a digital Venice would be the best option, based on the x32, but I would not want it to look too much like the x32 as there needs to be a clear line/difference between the behringer line and midas'

Turbo have got the same sort of banner on their website as well now.

Turbosound - Professional Loudspeaker Systems

Its almost like they all share the same marketing deparment... like they're all owned by the same people...

In all seriousness though, it will be interesting to see what Midas have for us. We all know that the money is in the smaller consoles, which is why there are so many competing for that market at the moment. But the prestige of the Midas brand is all about the big consoles, and they have really lost that market space now. The XL8 is far too big and expensive, and doesn't have enough inputs for the bigger shows, and the Pro3/6/9 haven't done all that well in a market thats dominated by Profiles, 5Ds, Vis and Digicos.
