Re: Whats in your mic box and what your favorite?

Thanks to you guys I too now own two AT Pro-37's and they're great little SDC's for the price. Bought a ksm27 when Mars Music went under a few years back and have used it for home vocal recording, but haven't taken it out live yet.

Vocals - 3 Sm58, 3 Sm57. One of each I've owned since 1987 and they still work great.

Guitars - 2 E906; z-bar as well for guest amps.

DI - JDI x 2; ProDI2.

Still holding onto: my old Radio Shack PZM - last used it to record drums to my 4 track in 94. Haven't modded it yet; maybe it's time.

I've got one of those in a drawer as well - bought when I was doing 4-track and ''foley'' recordings when I was in school, circa '93. I don't think it has seen the light of day since then, even with the XLR mod.

Re: Whats in your mic box and what your favorite?

Here are the mics I commonly use:

Audix

<ul>

[*]OM5

[*]OM6

[*]OM7

[*]ADX50

[*]ADX51

[*]D2

[*]D4

[*]D6

[*]F90
Telefunken

<ul>

[*]M80
Astatic

<ul>

[*]1700VP
Sennheiser

<ul>

[*]e835

[*]e906
The favorites are the Telefunken M80, which is the ultimate snare mic, and the Astatic 1700VP, the coolest variable-pattern condenser mic you've ever seen. It sounds amazing and picks up only what you want it to, and you can hear the pattern change in real time with headphones.

Re: Whats in your mic box and what your favorite?

...I also have Shure SM58 and SM57's in my mic box.

Yeah, me too.

Re: Whats in your mic box and what your favorite?

I general bring whatever is needed to the gig, since it's not practical to carry all of my mics, especially to the smaller gigs. SO here is my basic ''rock and roll'' mic package.

<u>Basic mic package.</u>

- SM58 X6

- SM57 X2

- Beta58 X2

- Beta57 X2

- Beta52 X1

- Audix D2 X3

- Audix D4 X1

- Audix D6 X1

- Rode NT5 X4

- (DI Boxes) 3XJ48, 3XJDI, 1XProD2

Total mics available if needed;

- SM86 X1

- SM58 X6

- SM57 X4

- Beta87 X1

- Beta58 X6

- Beta57 X6

- Beta52 X1

- Audix D2 X3

- Audix D4 X1

- Audix D6 X1

- Rode NT5 X4

- E609 X1

- E835 X1

This spring I plan on adding a pair of large diaphragm condensers, probably Shure KSM32s, four more SM58, 4 Audix OM7, and more Audix D2 and D4.

Re: Whats in your mic box and what your favorite?

My usual kit includes:

Kick: Shure SM91 in, Audix D6 out

Snare: Shure Beta 57a (top), SM57 (bottom)

Hat: Shure SM81

Rack Toms: Sennheiser E604's

Floor Toms: Sennheiser E604 or Audix D6

OH: KSM27's or SM81's

Electric Guitar: Sennheiser MD421, E906 or SM57, depending.

Vocals: Sennheiser e945

That's generally my preferred setup, but it varies accordingly.

Re: Whats in your mic box and what your favorite?

The company owns a whole bunch of the common stuff, so I don't have a lot of overlap. My personal collection:

6- AKG C-535

6- AKG C-391

2- AKG C-3000

2- AKG D-1900

3- AKG C-747

2- AKG C-580

6- AT-4041

1- AT-3035

1- AT-AE2500DE

6- Beyer M-69TG

2- Beyer MCE-80

1- Beyer M-380

1- Beyer TGX-50

2- CAD E-100 (original version)

2- EV PL-95

2- EV RE-16

3- EV RE-15

6- Oktava MC-012

6- Oktava MK-219 LDC

6- Shure SM-86

4- Radial J-48

4- EWI ADB-101

6- Countryman 85

This is from memory, there are probably a few I left out. My favorites? The AKG D-1900 on snare, CAD E-100 on kick drum or cello, the EV RE series on horns. The Oktava MK-219 sound very good on guitar amps and dobro.

I do a lot of orchestra work, so that's where all the SDC come into play.

Have fun, good luck.

2 Audix f15

1 Sennheiser e609 silver
