X32 Android App

Re: X32 Android App

I doubt they're going to do that since they're trying to get people to buy the p16 to use instead. Plus I think you're going to come into a bandwidth issue. The S16s use Cat5e which is probably gigabit back to the board to ensure the 100mb connection required. But 100 mb means you would have to have a pretty faithful N router/connection and most devices, iPad's included, only have G wireless which means 54 Mbps. Not enough for the AES50 protocol.

In short, likely monitoring levels and settings only, not audio.

Thanks Brian. I guess I was thinking a single stereo feed for FOH, not for musos to do headphone mixes from stage. The OSC Remote Protocol 1.01 has a solo section for all commands and parameters about the solo channel. I'd think that would limit the traffic enough to fit a stereo feed of the phones jack. I guess we can hope.

IMHO it is more a question of latency which avoid streaming the monitor cue to the ipad. Wireless networks have variing latency which can be that large that realtime streaming is not possible.

ok, hope gone.
I didn't think of the wireless latency.
Thanks.

Re: X32 Android App

The only problem would be that after spending the money on an iPad, I still wouldn't be to control my 01v96 with it because you can't run splashtop on an iPad and control a PC. I'm assuming this since it worked fine from my wife's Android tablet to my PC but not from her iPhone5 to my PC.
Then you are assuming it wrong. Splashtop works great on the ipad!

So if you're saying you have an iPad that is controling your PC then I'm curious as to what I'm doing wrong. When I downloaded Splashtop to the iPhone it wouldn't even let me log into the Splashtop account I was using with my PC. It just kept telling me it was an invalid account. But yet I could go over to the Android tablet and login and control the PC just fine. What am I missing?

Re: X32 Android App

Brian,

Thanks for your explanation, it is very helpful in understanding why manufacturers don't write Android apps. Also just so everyone knows, I wasn't intending to bash Linux in my previous comment. I meant it in the context that from a "Junior Varsity/Weekend Warrior" application, an X32 user would probably want to use either an iPad or Android for controlling their board and not likely to bring in a Linux system to do it.

Well that depends on who you talk to, though yes the number are likely to be smaller. Also Firewire is a beast to get working with low latency in Linux. No Kernel support. =/

At this point I'm very tempted just to buy an iPad because I can use it for any of the almost any of the digital mixers I use at my day job. The only problem would be that after spending the money on an iPad, I still wouldn't be to control my 01v96 with it because you can't run splashtop on an iPad and control a PC. I'm assuming this since it worked fine from my wife's Android tablet to my PC but not from her iPhone5 to my PC. Oh well, that's life right. Anyway thanks agian for the insight Brian.

Have a great day all,

Mario

Two things: 1) I can't imagine the Android app taking that long. Yeah they'll have to do some code in Java, but they already have their protocols and GUI drawn up, it's just a matter writing Java for all the functions. I would think they should be able to bang it out in a few months.
2) If you can't wait that long why not just get a used iPad? I'm sure people were dropping their iPad2s like it was hot, plus there's a new retina out soon if not already. Even an First gen iPad. You're not doing any serious processing, just controls so there shouldn't be any difference. under $200 may be a good investment. Plus when the Android app does come out, you have an extra tablet for the drummer, so he can adjust his monitor mix. =)

Guys... And what with latency of audio streaming via AirPort? How it looks like, becouse I hadn't seen this working.

Mediastreaming is completeley different from the use case of low latency realtime audio transfer. And even if Apple try to pretend that they are the best technicians in all possible univeres, on this earth in our reality they have to use standard WiFi for streaming with the Airport device.
sorry

If they could manage to get a fixed delay...

I can't tell what you're doing wrong (don't have any android either). However I haven't used the account feature yet as I'm using the local network feature instead...

Re: X32 Android App

Hi Guys,

I wanted to correct my colleague Jason Carter's earlier statement, as he was unaware that we are actually developing an Android app.
I do not have the exact release date but it is in the works.

Hi Joe

Anything new about a release date for this Android App?

The "Mixing Station" App found in the Android App Store is still only a Alpha version not actually working against your X32.

Best regards
Anders

Dear Anders,

We are looking at late 2013/early 2014 release for this app. We have not officially released any version of an Android App to date.

Thanx Joe

Ill wait those months for the Behringer App to pup up in the Google AppStore :)

In the meantime I will sit down and play with my new Compact and S16.

Thanks Joe. That is great news.

I am personally sickened to have to have purchased an iPad Mini for $320.00. I think the new Nexus 7 at $230.00 is a much better deal, and will likely be accompanied by other low cost options with the Android OS on them.

Somehow, a $150 - 200 mistake doesn't seem as painful as a $320.00 one does ;)
